Yes! The narrator's were superb!
Loved the way the author really seemed to understand the workings of the religious fanatic leaders like Chambliss. He nailed it!
Yes, this one was excellent! The accents and voices were perfect for the characters they were reading.
Hard to believe this is a debut novel! So well written, I could not put it down. I try to only listen to my audiobooks during my morning runs as a kind of motivation to run each day but I found myself "cheating" and listening while working around the house so I wouldn't miss anything! Loved the book. Can't wait for his next.
This is the first novel by Cash and it definitely reminds me of the terrific books of award winners John Hart and Tom Franklin. I enjoyed the book and believe I've found another award winner in Cash! The story is expertly told by three characters--an 8 year old boy, an old woman, and an experienced older sherif. The themes of survivors rather than victims, love from many angles, and small town involvement in everyone's lives is written beautifully. The mystery is slyly slipped in the compelling first person narratives. A real winner f
Each first person narrator was read by a different person. Adds a great deal to the enjoyment to an already great read!!
A Land More Kind Than Home is a good story made great by a terrific audio performance, I'd recommend it to anyone.
I am a always on the lookout for new authors and this one sure passed the test! This author is a true storyteller and writes on an intelligent level. No cotton candy here. I am so glad that I listened to it rather than read it. The narrators are outstanding. I will definitely buy any future books by Mr. Cash.
At first I wasn't too sure about it-took a little while to get into the story but when I did it was well worth it. Find myself sitting in the car as long as I can to listen.
This was a great audiobook to listen to, primarily because the story itself was so fascinating. A snake oil salesman reverend has built a congregation in a secluded town where he subjects his followers to horribly risky acts that have deathly consequences! This story is about a charasmatic person's ability to draw in people to do things that are against their best interests, and how one person's charm can blind people to what's right & wrong.
This story is told by multiple people and there are multiple voice actors performing in this audiobook which was a real treat to listen to. From these multiple perspectives you can really get a feel for the power dynamics that make up small towns. When I first started listening to this I thought it was a mystery, but it is not at all, but it has a lot of suspense in it and it is a great story to listen to and multitask with.
The narrarators made this book come to life. I didn't want to have to pause it!
I would strongly advise listening to it.
A turbulent yet heartwarming read, executed masterfully! The three narrators added depth and credibility to a story built around faith challenges. Heartache and resilience. Cash gets the internal thought processes just right.
I dreaded every chapter with Jess. It was just Plain awful. Please choose Southerners with real Southern accents.
Kept listening because I thought it had to get better. Same old story of redemption through loss that you've read 100 times. Boring characters and boring story. Did I say it was boring and that the book bored me? Honestly, how did this get published?
