Carnal innocence is slightly out of our time frame but it is a good story having been written in the 90s. The best thing about this story is that you will not guess who the perpetrator is. It's a great twist. The narrator needs some work on his southern accent but overall a good listen.
This book was well written. Caroline and Tucker ' complement each other. I enjoyed the suspense and the end was unexpected. This is a definite must read.
Love Nora Roberts. Her stories are always complex and well written. They keep the reader interested, entertained and anxious to see how the story will end. The characters are also very well written and draw the reader in. This one is a particularly good one.
Nora Roberts has done it again. Left me sitting in my driveway listening to next suspenseful chapter. The narrations are wonderful and help to project the suspense
The story is set in the south and full of all of those Rich historical southern cultural issues and beauties. Listening to somebody deliver the racial ugliness with strong accents and ugliness was actually kind of frightening and disturbing I'm not sure I like to listening to that part but maybe that's what made the book so good
The characters were such stereotypes. I get that this book was written 25ish years ago and is set in a small southern town but c'mon... the men were mostly drunken, misogynistic, racist morons and the women were (mostly) the feisty southern belle types... in heat. I wonder if Roberts had ever visited the south when she'd written this.
The scenes meant to depict racial tensions and the overuse of derogatory language just made me cringe; they were so ham-fisted and over the top.
And it dragged on and on. I fell asleep at one point while listening, waking up 2 hours later and I don't think I missed out on any vital parts of the story.
Sure. I usually like Nora Roberts for a bit of light escapism/romance but this one was really disappointing.
Don't make the characters sound like the cast of Hee Haw.
Most of them. Except Cy; I liked him.
This book is simply amazing! From the characters to the story lines, it has it all! Love, suspense, action...you have to listen!
He did such an excellent job! I've never heard a narrator change his accent/tones as well as he does.
