The narrator was very good. He set the tone and his voice was easy to listen to. The story was good but I think the narrator added to that quite a bit.
I would compare this to the movie sphere Only because the ending was flat and simplistic. Great building up to the finale & then 'eh'. It just could have been a better ending .
The house warming party was my favorite scene. Bizarre, scary, classic haunt to freak out a large group of people.
A couple of parts moved me to the point of tears. I got upset when the lead male character Julian talks about Myles and reveals who he really is.
I would recommend this audiobook. Overall, I enjoyed it.
Held my attention, never wanted the story to end. And was excited to listen to more.
I guess if I had to pick just one it would have to be Clair the mother.
When the little boy was digging and eating dirt.
My husband has Audio Books account , and he let me listen to this story, I will be hitting him up for more books. And such an easy way to hear a book . When your not much on reading them.
An excellent audio book, kept me interested until the end!!
The ending was unexpected!!
The father, what he did in the end was amazing!!
Give this audio book a chance and you won't be disappointed!!
I am at that half a century mark in years. I enjoy audiobooks, cats, rats and most days my family, not necessarily in that order!lol
I have no idea.I use audio books.
The dad. He's the one telling the story.
His voice was pleasant. His acting was good.
No extreme reaction. The book was good.
I love Bentley Littles older stuff. This was GOOD but not one of his greatest works.
I was really looking forward to listening to this novel by Bentley Little because of the overall decent reviews it received, and because I generally just like a good scary book. In the end though, I ended up being disappointed. I found the book to be unoriginal, derivative, and uninspired. Many parts were tedious to get through and there were few, if any, truly scary parts to the story. I was also very let down by the ending of the story, which was very anticlimactic. I guess I expected a more dramatic showdown between the father and the evil spirit when they face-off and the end of the book. The ending seems to me to be very unresolved, perhaps because there is sequel to this book, or one is planned. At any rate, I can't recommend this book, as there are much better ones out there, such as Peter Clines' "14" novel, which I read a few months ago.
As far as the narration goes, Dan Butler does a competent job, but you can tell he struggles with trying to make this book scarier than it is. Because of this, the narration is awkward at times.
Say something about yourself!
I enjoyed this book enough to be able to to finish it. Little did a good job of creating mystery. Described the odd happenings well. Butler did a good job. Getting better as the story went on.
I was disappointed with the ending. I was waiting for something more dramatic. I was left with some unanswered questions which is always a let down. Perhaps I missed something...?
I think getting this one on sale would be best. A "bogo" is alway good as well.
“In the case of good books, the point is not to see how many of them you can get through, but rather how many can get through to you.” By Mortimer J. Adler
I loved everything about it! It has its horror, funny moments and some unadulterated moments that had me gasping. I especially like how the author keeps things interesting with easy flowing... not too wordy.
I was hugely blown away with all the action involved! Never got boring. Very good story, it kept me hooked from beginning to end.
Dan Butler was a great. He made every character come to life. Hope he gets to narrate the next Bently Little book.
I have to say both Julian and Clare. I loved their relationship. :)
This is my first book from Bentley Little and I LOVED IT! I only wish Audible would have more of his books availble on the site!!!
Yes. I listen to my book while driving and sometimes miss small sections.
The "boo" that was waiting when I least expected it.
His ability to help me distinguish what character was speaking by the tone he gave and kept for each one.
Are you afraid of the dark?
I love Bentley Little. He is right up there with Stephen King and Dean Koontz! I'm looking forward to "reading" more!
Ready to enjoy great books!
I was very surprised on how good this novel was. I almost had tears in my eyes during some of the chapters. This is an adult horror, make sure no little ears anywhere close while reading this! I liked this so much i'm looking for my next download by the author.
Being scared, not knowing what was going to happen next.
The house warming party
Claire and Julian. I would want to know why they kept their mouth shut about what was happening and not protect their kids sooner.
I was disappointed how the book ended. I understand the house's hold over them but it had a kind of "let's get this story over with" feeling to it. It did have me scared throughout and I wanted to listen to it in 1 sitting, just couldn't though...you know, had to get back to real life. Plan on listening to other books by Bentley Little and/or narrated by Dan Butler. His voice put me in the character's mind, not being able to judge between real and imagined, which made the story creepier. Could have done without the sex scenes. Didn't understand how it played into the story line...maybe to prove the house's hold over anyone there???
