This book gets you hooked quickly for you the main character is easy to love - very believable. She gets herself into a situation after making a youthful poor decision similar to one that most of us have made at least once in our lives. The story then travels with her through the next ten years. Each person along the way is enjoyable....believable. It's modern without being foolish. The characters talk with recognizable language using words that we all use. Best of all this book ends well. I would be thrilled if this is the first of a series and will be happy if it's not.
I am not a fan of this type of book normally. Generally after I get interested and involved along will come a character or situation so unbelievable that it ruins the rest of the book for me. Not this book. It was well thought out, characters and situations true. No silly accents or trite comments. I loved it. I certainly will be checking out other books by this author in the future....and after a quick glance, I see I have a long list to choose from.
OHHHH Yes, the plot is gripping. I enjoyed how the author has several different plots going on throughout the entire bookstarting and beginning throughout the entire book that keep you wondering how a number of situations will turn out all throughout the book at many different points.
Excellent. Her voice was very well matched with the main character and she read each character with the perfect inflection. I even enjoyed her foreign voices. The last three books I listened to have had just awful narration. I think if I had gotten one more poorly narrated book that I would have handed Audible my cancelation notice. Julia Whelan restored my faith in Audible and I will also be looking for books read by her as well.
Not wanting to give away too much... the most enjoyable parts for me was watching the progression of love.
This was a very enjoyable sixteen hours. It's quite the value actually, for after that time investment, I feel enriched by the time spent.
Top ten favorite!
When Brooks was finding guns all over the house...made me laugh out loud!
I have not heard her narrate before but I enjoyed her very much.
I couldn't put my ipod down, it was driving my husband crazy!
I enjoyed the book, liked the narrator, and LOVE the author!!
I really enjoyed listening to this story. I loved the characters and worried for them when they were in danger. I like it when I can get so engrossed in a book, that I forget that it isn't real! I guess the only flaw of the book (hence only 4 stars) was the author's long winded detail of sex scenes. They weren't necessary for the story line and could have been deleted or at least toned down. At one stage I ended up turning the volume down for awhile. Thank goodness there weren't many in the book!!! Julia Whelan did a fabulous job with the different voices for the characters.
I loved this book. I still feel a loss that it ended. I want more of these characters. The story kept my attention. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who loves Nora Roberts or even if this is your first - you will love it.
I have enjoyed most of Ms. Roberts' books. This one takes her readers to a higher level of action/thrills/suspense, romance and a touch of delicious humor. Her characters developed immediately-- and there are so many who are integrate to the story. And Julia Whelan is superb! It was really hard to put down.
The narrator! Julia Whelan was effortless in changing the tone and gender of her voice.
Excellent story made even better by the right fit for narrating the story.
It was not edgy in that way, yet the story line built very smoothly and it did have enough edge to keep me wanting to extend my 60 mile commute just a little longer.
Her way she switched gender, age, and made the characters have their own personality through voice.
A Love story mixed with justice and feel good vibes.
BUY THIS BOOK! It is wonderful. I gave it 5 stars after listening for 2 hours. Now I'm down to the last 1/2 hour. I have cleaned, gardened, knitted, cooked, scanned pictures to my computer, everything I could think of just to keep listening. The last time I was this wrapped up with a Nora Roberts book was with Black Rose, and as good as that was, this is better. Wow!Thank you! This book was so very well done!
Yes, I just kept churning.
Another review mentioned the similarities with the tv show Bones...Julia brought that to it with innocence.
The obvious of course, but what smacked me! was when she explained how she was going to bring them down. I loved that part! It really makes you think...the bad guys would have no way to retaliate.
It is one of my best spent credits!
When I started listening, I wondered if I wanted to continue. The interaction between a teenage girl and her cold dogmatic mother was not what I wanted. But, Wait, the story picks up quickly and soon you can't stop listening.
Julia Whelan's reading truly brought the story to life. She kept exactly the right tone as we moved from crime, suspense to romance.
A terriffic listen. You'll love it!
Julia Whelan is great at narrating in such a way that you can identify characters and their emotions through her voice changes and adaptions. I'm very impressed.
The nightclub scene and teenage rebellion in the beginning is so well written and performed that the mother in me wanted to wrap my arms around Liz and protect her!
This is a book that, once I finished it, I wanted to start over and listen again. The character depth and development is exceptional and the story line believeable. Nora Roberts is Excellent Again!
CHARACTERS IN THE STORY
NOT ON THE EDGE, BUT A GOOD STORY THAT YOU DON'T WANT TO PAUSE.
