Great storyline with good characters - would like to have seen the mother receive her comeupance and a few more details in the time Liz/Abigail was hiding from ages 17 to 28.
At the very top. Loved the story, Abigaile, Brooks, Bert and all the characters.
The main characters. Made for each other. She who did not believe in fate met her match in him who lived his life believing in fate.
Fantastic. Her narrative brought the characters to life with all the nuances of sorrow, happiness, vulnerability, hope and desire for love. She gave life to each of the characters in this book, especially Abigaile and Brooks!
When Abigaile realizes that she can have the life she had only thought was possible!
One of Ms. Robert's best books. I am in awe of her and have great admiration for her prodigious talent!!!! Keep them coming, please!
Totally addicted to Audible.
I almost did not get this book because I wanted something more suspenseful than just a lot of romantic fluff but it was a great buy. The heroine was so strong and so resourceful. The hero was so normal yet courageous. And the plot was almost believable - no supernatural or far-out storyline - just very normal people living in a normal town, facing real enemies and making hard choices. Give us more of this type story Nora!
I liked the suspense of the story. They characters were likable. Abigail reminded me of Dr. Temperance Brennan from the TV show Bones (which is one of my favorite shows). Brooks was a fun and understanding character. Their relationship was fun to watch grow and develop.
I enjoy listen to this book but like most Nora Roberts book I wish she would keep telling the story after the conclusion of the story. This is one of my favorites of hers.
PLOT : UNDERAGE Elizabeth first time to a party has her witness a Russian Mob hit.
12 years later Abigil is living in the Ozarks and is a top notch security expert. Complete with huge guard dog, cameras and hand guns. Local Law officer Brooks Gleason becomes suspicious of Abigail when he spots a gun hidden under her shirt. The mysterious woman takes his interest with her recusive life style. Abigail is a genis with an IQ of over 200. Raised by a gifted beautiful mother who controlled her every move. Elizabeth /Abigail is now living in seclusion in the Ozarks. The Russian Mob still looking for her she hides with a new ID and job using her own security expert skills to stay alive. Soon reclusive Abigail is finding the new joys of living and loving as an adult though her encounters with new love Brooks. This one of Roberts most facinating heroines. We watch Abigail boom and learn about life as an adult. Excellent reader and this story movies along very well. and you will be glued to the very end.
I read so I can write
I have loved Nora Roberts books for many years. I have to admit there have been a number of them that have disappointed me for some reason or another and made me wonder if someone was ghost writing for her or she was simply having a bad day.
This is Nora at her true best. A fantastic story with cleanly combined romance and mystery that holds interest to last paragraph.
The books that disappoint still disappoint, but books like this keep me buying more of her books.
The narrator was a little less than the best, but the story kept this book at 5 stars.
I don't know if I found the right headline word for a book that didn't excite me or was sad that it had to end. It is a sweet love story of a girl who's mother had planned her life before birth to become just like herself, a famous surgeon... but that's not what happens. The daughter, Liz /Abigail who lacked the love of her mother rebells for the first time at 16 and ends up in a situation of witnessing a Russian mob killing and then is placed in witness protection only to have her protectors killed so she escapes and goes into hiding for the next 12 years. She intrigues the handsome single sheriff of this small town where she's been recluse and they fall in love and then skillfully comes up with a way to expose all those involved with the mob killings... you get the picture.
I try to be objective and expose myself to good writers and all types of generas. I think Roberts is a good writer and if you like simple love stories with a taste of heat then this book will fill that bill!
Never read Nora Roberts, whom the New York Times just profiled as the most popular novelist in the U.S. Nor do I read romance novels. I bought this on a recommendation, and I'm glad I did. My expectations were low, but she exceeded them. Not bad. Good narrator.
Audiobook. Following rebellion of an emotionally abused girl, and her witness of a murder, the story jumps a decade to a handsome cop meeting mysterious woman with a strong, independent, and vulnerable persona. She’s on the run, he struggles to learn why and to win her heart at the same time.
In my opinion, the ending is rushed, the bad guys too easy for her to conquer.
Easy listen, formulaic to a large degree. Boy gets girl.
If you want something to keep you listening and thinking, this isn't it. It is cotton candy for the mind. I have never listened to this author before so I didn't know that she wrote romance stories. If that is what you are looking for then you will probably enjoy this, so many other reviewers have. If you want excitement or suspense don't buy this one.
