things that make you "hmmm"
Julian Whalen goes such an excellent job with the voices of characters, and the inflection of feeling and drama at the right time! she is the best. story is really good also.
Great book, loved the characters and the twists in the story! Didn't want to put it down and felt sad when it was over.
One of my very favorites! Sometimes I think you can get more out of a book by listening to it than reading it. I loved how the Elizabeth/Abigail was narrated. Her stilted, precise speech gave real depth to her character. I love when a narrator can bring such a range of voices to the table. I detest having to wait for the "said so-and-so" to figure out who is talking. That is absolutely not the case here. An excellent job.
I fell in love with these characters, and I was so very invested in how things were going to turn out.
Some spoilers, but very little...... A (very) brief summary.
Very intelligent teen, with a horribly controlling and emotionless mother witnesses a terrible crime. Witness protection goes horribly wrong. Can you really live while constantly looking over your shoulder? Or are you mearly existing? How much is too much to reveal? Can you ever allow yourself to drop your guard and interact with those around you? Or is the threat and the constant terror of being discovered too great?
Hiding in a small town, Abigail works hard to keep to herself and stay hidden. But in a small town - that actually draws more attention. Including the attention of the current chief of police, who is very interested in what trouble she is hiding from, and the danger it may pose to his town if it finds her there.
This story is a great mix of suspense, character development, and relationships.
Please, read - absolutely worth a credit, heck, it's definitely worth an outright buy at full price. And I don't say that, ever.
I'm an avid reader and listener! Books are my friends!
Loved the story, the twists and turns, the intrigue, the characters and it had a satisfying outcome.
Another winner from this team; an intriguing story, from start to finish - with believable twists throughout! Robert's strong narrative is delivered by Julia Whelan's customary expertise with a variety of dialects. One of the shining moments in the story is when an academic genius believes in the power of love. An enjoyable story!
While I selected this book based on the reviews, I disagree with the reviews. This book starts ek and you keep on waiting till the end for it to pickup pace but it doesn't. Half way through I realized what the end will be and after that it was a long wait for it to end.
Learning how smart Elizabeth needed to be to stay aline
Yes. I felt like she was going to be discovered at any time.
The ending was such a surprise!
Yes, the final scene was such a surprise!
One of the best books I've listened to in quite some time!
