I love books and love to get lost in the fantasy. I'm always looking for a new good story to bury myself in. :)
This was a very good story. I loved Ewan and Mairin, they made a sweet and interesting couple. The story takes place in Scottish Highlands in the past and the story has a pretty good plot that keeps things interesting.
Mairin is the illegitimate daughter of a King. She's been put in hiding in an Abby until she's married as many would forcibly marry her for her dowry. She's sweet but also has a bit of a fiery spirit and is just hoping she can find a husband that will treat her well. She ends up being kidnapped from her Abby by a man that tries to force her to marry him but she manages to escape along with a young boy she helped.
Ewan is the leader of his clan and a good man. His first wife died and he's spent his time building his clan and raising his son. When his son, Chrispin, goes missing Ewan is beside himself and search parties are sent all around. When Chrispin is located he's in the company of a beautiful woman whom his son insists they must help.
Ewan agrees to help Mairin since she was good enough to help his son. The man that tried to force her in to marriage is a sworn enemy of their clan and Ewan has no problem with an excuse to fight him. He does still want to know why Mairin is so important. When he finds out who she is and about her dowry, Ewan realizes that marrying her would be of great benefit to the clan so he sets out to convince her. Admittedly, Mairin and Ewan feel an attraction to each other but Mairin is very annoyed by Ewan and just wants to leave (even though she has no real place to go that's safe). Ewan does manage to convince her that marrying him would be beneficial to them both and Mairin starts to look on their marriage with hope that things will turn out alright.
Unfortunately, bad plots are afoot and Ewan's enemy continues to cause problems as Mairin and Ewan's marriage starts. Fortunately, Ewan's clan embraces Mairin as their own and she settles in well. That doesn't mean everything is smooth though and there were some issues that Mairin and Ewan needed to get past as they learn each other and settl in to their marriage. Although there are some fights, Mairin and Ewan work things out well and I liked seeing the feelings grow between each other. They have some tender moments and eventually they truly fall in love with each other (such a sweet scene when they admit it!).
But the bad plots against them are still active and they find out that the threat is bigger than just Ewan's enemy. Mairin and Ewan are separated for a time and Ewan and his men have to go against heavy opposition in order to get her back and keep her safe. Things don't look good for a while and I have to admit I wondered how things would be resolved but in the end they were and we get a great ending with a satisfying HEA.
I really liked this story. Mairin and Ewan were great and a really sweet couple (Ewan is a kickbutt warroir but he could still be very sweet). The story was well written and interesting and leads in to the next book of the series nicely (without a cliffhanger). I'd recommend this book. Thumbs up. :D
I haven't read many romance novels but this was wonderful. It was a little bit like Fifty Shades (with much better romance) meets Braveheart. I can't wait to read Book 2 of the series. I do wish they would take that picture off the front cover. It's nothing like I would have pictured either of them.
Listen to this, sit back and enjoy.
It ranks pretty high. I have listened to many audiobooks and this is one of my favorites.
I really just love Ewan and Mairin. They are just so sweet.
I loved the way she read the book. Her voices were amazing and her enthusiasm while reading is unmatched. I would find more books read by her just to hear her voice.
I loved the part when Mairin is listing different suggestions on what to do with the traitor and Caelen says she is so bloodthirsty. I love it!
Never read the print version
Uncle to the rescue
The narrator has more of a spanish accent rather than a scott, it took several hours to get use to it
A good read, though I have read better Hilander books.
I was a little put off by the cover art, which was so explicit and not very accurate. The hero, Ewan, was described as having long hair, but I guess that I am nit-picking. Anyway, this is the story of Mairin Stewart, illegitimate daughter of the recently deceased king of Scotland. Once she marries and produces a child, she will come into her inheritance, a strategic plot of land which is desired by many of the local lairds. The story starts with her being kidnapped by Duncan Cameron, one of these lairds, who plans to force her into marriage. She resists (of course!) and while being spirited back to his keep, she encounters a lost child, young Crispin McCabe, who wandered away from his clan's keep and ended up being kidnapped, as well. She take him under her protection, escapes, and ends up back on the McCabe lands. She meets up with Crispin's father, the widowed Ewan McCabe and sparks fly. This was a fun story, with lots of plot twists, and lots of steamy parts, too. Still, the story held up and it did not feel like a series of sex scenes. I came to really care about the characters and wanted to know more about them. So glad that this is the first of a trilogy!
Really liked this story. Had the right balance of adventure, heat and spunk. The heroin was no helpless damsel and the story was good. Characters were likable. This was my first book by this author. Will definitely read more.
I am a busy sports mom listening to romance only. If the narrator is good and it has a decent plot, I will find it enjoyable.
The story is so well developed and the characters are great. I've never been a fan of this type of book, but its become a favorite that I listen to over and over. I couldn't wait until for the next book and then the next.
The relationship between the main characters.
Yes. Just enough so that you care about the characters.
Nothing. I really enjoyed her.
Addicted to Audio Books.....
The absolute BEST EVER! I want more Highlander romance after this trilogy.
All of them were my favorites - I love how each new book story line flowed into the other's and kept all the characters involved even though a new story was unfolding.
Passionate and Sexy!
Reading is a must-have ESCAPE...
As a lover of Highlander stories (especially those by Paula Quinn & Karen Marie Moning), "In Bed..." seemed like a good buy. Rocking installment. The reader is hooked right from the start. Yes, as another pointed out, there is some similarity to "Ravished by a Highlander" but "In Bed..." has much original material not to mention well described intimacy. Though I want a great story, I equally crave sexual chemistry and romance between characters. Banks doesn't disappoint.
Having enjoyed Kirsten Potter's narrations in the past, her interpretation in this story is equally wonderful. Consumed the story in one day! Not a waste of time or money.
