Original plot and characters. A storyline that is not contrived.
I listened to The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane. It had a very good balance of an original story and interesting characters. Howe has a nice writing style and Kellgren did a fine job as the narrator. There was even romance - one I liked.
The narrator was not up to the task of keeping in character. One minute she had a faux Scottish accent, the next a bland American one.
The question is which one to keep in? I cannot think of any except for a secondary child character.
I rarely buy romances. I decided to try this one because it was on sale and had so many 5 star reviews. Why anyone would give this a 5 stars is beyond me.
Story starts out fairly violent and cruises for a while working on the relationship of the heroine (and make no mistake, she is a heroine, not a damsel in distress) with her new husband and new clan. The characters in the story were well done. The narration really drew me into the story and made it real. Kristen Potter had great accents for the characters and she did a very good job with male voices. The end of the story ends with some suspense and action that was fine, but sort of gilding the lily on this great listen.
Say something about yourself!
This was an okay listen. When I was done I didn't have any overwhelming feelings in either direction- love or hate. I think what holds this book above water is the narration. The story line is decent, but predictable. I found myself giving a half hearted cheer in certain parts of the book...
M.O.M. - manager of mayhem!
It took a while for me to even care about the heroine or the hero.... so it dragged until the second half when the story line picked up.. I did enjoy it and the second book is proving to be worth it!
It's ok.. she moves pretty fast though... but her accent in genuine and easy to listen to
I'M MALE NOT FEMALE, BUT IT'S ASKING TO MUCH FOR AUDIBLE TO CORRECT THERE RECORDS, THERE NOT SMART ENOUGHT
FUN SEXY ROMANCE
THE HIGHLANDER WAS FERCE YET SOOOO LOVING
THE FEELING SHE GAVE EACH CHARACTER WAS SO VERY ON POINT I COULD JUST LAY BACK AND FEEL THE STORY AS IF I WAS THERE WITH THEM.
YES YES YES
Nurse, mom, loved to read....but now I love to listen. When I retire I hope to hear waves crashing in 1 ear and audible in the other!
I have not read the printed version..I am now an audible addict with a sackful of books in my closet.
Love story, sexy with the usual but good ending.
I enjoyed the narration, her characters were distinct and natural, even the men.
I listened to the entire trilogy in a weekend!
Listen in order..they are all a bit unique but follow all the characters along.
Totally addicted to Audible.
I had gotten the last book of this series a few months ago and liked it but thanks to the Series Sale I was able to get the first 2 as well. When you listen to this one first and the others in order it makes them much more enjoyable. Don't get these if you are squeamish about sex scenes as they are plentiful and graphic. Otherwise enjoy!
No spoilers! Love HOT, sexy books w/a plot. No vampires, paranormal, teens 4 me. I also review in exchange for books-lots of fun surprises!
Much to my surprise, I loved this series.
Maron's wedding night...if you could call it a 'night'. :)
Only in this series but I look forward to anything she performs. She is exceptional.
I enjoyed Marion and her quest to please her man. This is an excellent start to the series.
Because I listened to the Outlander series (my first exposure to both historical fiction and romance) I assumed this would somehow equal Outlander in complexity and storytelling. The story was OK but formulaic. It was painful to listen to all the cliches about bodice ripping and sheaths and manhoods. The plot twists seemed thin and implausible. Based on the reviews, many many people like this book, so I guess it is a matter of taste. I would not buy other books in the series.
