Good listen, the story flowed well and kept me interested. The narrator was wonderful and the characters were honest. I look forward to the next in the series.
I did not have the written version.
The story is unpredictable, exciting, sensual, sexy, hot, fun, unbelievably enthralling.
Beth was the bomb! She was strong, smart, unbending, and very coning.
I loved it. I could not stop listening. Mrs. Ashley has become one of my favorites authors.
Not for the faint of heart. Well written, strong, but not vulgar. The dialogues were fabulous.
I loved the people in the story. Ian is so interesting and misunderstood. Beth sees beyond to the real person inside who feels so deeply. Not your normal superhero type, perfect man in a romantic tale, rather a pair of real people and a good murder mystery.
Does not make my top 20
No memorable moments stand out!
All characters performed by Angela Dawe are good, she my favorite narrator... Got this book because she was the narrator. But her british accent was lacking. She should stick to what she does best.... Contemporary romance
I wasn't sure I would like this book but I am glad I took the chance. This book was different but in a good way. I can't wait for the rest of the series.
The story is good, sexy!
The narrator didn't show any inflection - and made the story sound grim.
On the high end...Pretty good
Can love make you crazy or Can it make you ~Sane~
I've already listened to it twice and have it loaded on my iPod for the third time. It is a WONDERFUL story and so sympathetic. My friend's son has Asburgers so I know a bit about mild Autism and it is horrific that it was so misunderstood, yet Jennifer Ashley's empathy and description of Ian was gripping.
Too many memorable moments to select only one ... I smile to myself while listening. Beth's introduction to Hawk is memorable, as is Ian's reaction to it.
Angela Dawe is one of my favourite narrators ... I have listened to all of the Nalini Singh Psy Changeling series and she is fabulous in that also. I now look for books she has narrated.
Yes ... when Ian's "muddle" in the park caused him to think that he would lose Beth because of it.
Read it ... listen to it ... enjoy it.
One of the best. Ever.
I love the story because it has a flawed hero who is transformed by love, but not "cured" of his quirkiness as happens in so many novels. Oh, and it's steamy.......
Probably Curry, but she does an AMAZING job with all of the characters.
I did both. It was very well done.
I love this book. I have read it a few times and I didn't think I could love it any more, but Angela's performance and the quality of this audiobook proved me wrong. Whether you have read this story or not, you will love the audiobook.
I am a lover of books. I enjoy losing myself in a fabulous romance and great story plot.
I have to say that I am constantly in search of stellar reads, and more often I'm disappointed. So, imagine my absolute delight upon falling up on this AMAZING book!!! This book is about Ian Mackenzie and Beth Ackerley. Let me say it is superb....just superb from start to finish! SOMEONE WOULD HAVE TO BE CRAZY NOT TO BE DRAWN IN BY IAN MACKENZIE! ☺
THINGS I ADORED ABOUT THIS BOOK:
1) CHARACTERS-- I loved how mature and strong the characters in the book are. These are decisive, compelling strong characters; both the leads and the supporting characters. I loved both Ian, Beth and the Mackenzie family (Ian’s brothers)!
I felt like counting my lucky stars & was so impressed with the author in the way that she did not infuse this novel with stupid misunderstandings between the leads. The leads don't mince words, nor waste time on senseless details. You know exactly where everyone stands. They face their issues with truthfulness and courage. All of the characters are multi-dimensional including Ian’s valet and Beth’s lady maid---very rich, interesting people.
2) HEROINE- Beth Ackerley is highly intelligent, sharp-witted, tenacious, and just a good, healthy, independent woman—how’s that for a mouthful? I was so impressed with this heroine. She is the type of woman who follows her instincts and rarely makes a mistake. She falls madly in love, and accepts Ian Mackenzie unconditionally (and who can blame her?—he’s delicious!). Beth is super funny & sarcastic & I love how even though Ian doesn’t get humor well, he learns from her. Beth is ever so patient and loving toward Ian.
Also, I LOVED how Beth interacted with Ian’s brothers, especially Hart, the duke. She engaged in some serious verbal fencing with the duke and didn’t cower to his bullying tactics. Overall, Beth provides stability to Ian and his whole family. Seriously, toward the end of the book it is evident that Beth brings color and happiness to all of their lives (the MacKenzie family). Beth brings such a powerful resolution to the problems the MacKenzie family have faced for years, that it’s almost as though she takes on the role of a type of matriarch for them. She’s a pretty powerful heroine!
3) HERO- Ian MacKenzie oozes sex appeal. He is absolutely SWOON worthy! He has some form of autism (perhaps Asperger’s?), has superior memory and intelligence. Ian is alluring, sensual and different…or what others would term “mad.” I think Jennifer Ashley’s gift as a writer is in her ability to create a hero such as Ian who is equally attractive as he is different. It was so interesting to see the world through his eyes. When he would avoid eye contact with the heroine, his distraction of objects and his forward way of expressing himself (without filters). Yet, what made Ian most captivating was his expressed love and fascination for Beth. Ian is hands down one of my favorite heros ever!
4) STEAMY, SENSUAL ROMANCE!!! The romance in this book never loses it’s place. It stays front and foremost in the book. The subplots are fabulous, but maintain a secondary place in comparison to the love between the leads. The love scenes never lost steam and potency…they are hot, hot, hot throughout the book!
I could go on and on because I loved this book so much. This is my first Jennifer Ashley book. My only regret is that I don’t have a vacation lined up right now to read/listen to the whole series in a matter of hours.
The narrator is just amazing! Angela Dawe is gifted in her ability to create both male and female voices. She made this listening experience so enjoyable!
