I enjoy many types of books and am always looking for new authors to read and listen too. I enjoy reading the reviews and adding my own from time to time.
Lord Ian Mackenzie loves Ming bowls to the point of obsession. Their beauty kept him from going insane after being put in an asylum by his abusive father when he was a child. He is brilliant but appears to walk to a different drummer. He prevents beautiful young widow Beth Ackerly from marrying Sir Lyndon Mather who is only after her money. It takes little time for Ian to want Beth himself and when she breaks the engagement to Mather and goes to France he follows her. They come home to Scotland married. Ian's brother Hart, the Duke of Kilmorgan is not happy about the marriage and makes life a little uneasy for Beth at first. There is a power struggle which involves a former lover of Hart's that puts Beth in peril and Ian has several setbacks. A well rounded story with great love /sex scenes. Jennifer Ashley writes this type of novel very well. All the books in this series are good and book six will be out soon. Have really enjoyed the stories of the Mackenzie brothers. Well worth a credit. Have listened several times and will again.
I picked this one up because it was on sale but what a pleasure it turned out to be. The character Beth is read out well by Angela Dawe, although it took me a while to get use to her narration. However in the end, I thought her narration was very suitable to the tale to be told here. Ian, the unexpected 'hero' in this book, wormed himself into my heart. I like the detailed description of his thoughts. Jennifer Ashley shown a believable insight in the mind of an eccentric or genius or as a reviewer mentioned, one with slight autism.
Character development of Beth and the Mackenzie brothers unfold quite nicely. Towards the last few chapters, I just could not stop listening. Now I'm going to check out the book version of Mack and Isabella's story. Wish the audio version of these series will be out soon.
The reader has the voices ok.. but reads the book as if it is an instruction book for a toaster or directions to assemble a bookcase. That becomes annoying!
My first... and would like to continue in the series, but if I do I will buy the books, not endure the reader again.
Might as well have been reading a techinal manual.
The story line was good and developed characters.
Different reader would have made a world of difference.
Delicious. Love Ian, who is not your typical rogue-turned-devoted lover. He is one of the more complex, well written, and compelling characters in this genre. I look forward to more from JA!!!
I was looking for something light and quick to listen to and this was entertaining, to say the least. While the base story was actually pretty good, I found the romance part to be laugh out loud funny and the narration to be in an odd panicky monotone. Entertaining? Yes - but for all of the wrong reasons.
This is by far my favorite audiobook, and one I've listened to over and over again. I love all the books in this series, but this one is the best. (Mostly because of Ian!)
Hands down, Ian is the best character in this, and the other MacKenzie books.
I love romantic historical novels.
On of the best. It kept me awake all night until i was finished.
That must be Ian. He is loyal to his family and frinds, even when everyone think the worst of him. He is a very sensual man, but he is also starving for someone to love and belive in him. Even when he don't belive, that he; him self is capable of loving or other feelings.
She gave the characters a life of there one in the book.
Who can love the mad Lord
Beth and Ian a cupel whit a lot of hurdles in front of them. Ian are questioning himself and his sanity. Beth is struggling wgit her feelings to Ian. Does she stay whit him or not. Is her love strong enough.
I love this book. Worth a credit.
I absolutely love romance stories and this one had an odd twist that made it a nice listen! I would recommend this as a book to listen to.
This book was such a pleasant surprise. Lord Ian is an Aspie and the authors insight's into his thoughts and challenges were wonderful. I listened to this one twice (something I never do) because it was so good. Great story telling, I can't wait to read about the rest of this charming and complicated family.
Yes. If you like regency romance, you will like this series. Strong main characters. Easy to follow storyline with just enough info to lead you into the next book.
She did an excellent job in bringing the characters to life.
Most definitely. Finished the series in a week.
