10 Years on Audible with very few sorry choices.
The story started off fine, then turned ridiculously implausible.
I don't know where to begin, but let's say with a character that is sure that everything is about him.
Narration was the best thing about this audio-book.
I used to love Baldacci, but he seems to have peaked with his earlier stories. With each recent Baldacci release the stories get increasingly contrived and the scenes more and more implausible. This one is the worst. I keep listening to the end of each, hoping they will somehow get better, but they never do. The story isn't complex, it's just dumb. Don't waste your credit, much better stuff out there.
The performers did a great job... the best they could with such awful material.
I really enjoy listening to Baldacci's book They are fun, keep me guessing and at the same time do not require the brainpower of say a Tom Clancy novel. I like stories that move. This is my favorite. The characters were not overdeveloped and the story moved fast. I enjoyed this new character and look forward to further novels about him. I highly recommend!
Yes, good story, well performed, many twists and turns.
The character development brought me into the story and made it hard to stop listening.
Numerous and this is one of their better.
I look forward to next installment.
I love to listen and read books. I don't waste a minute...I listen when I am driving, cleaning, getting my nails done, etc. Fiction books are my favorites.... mysteries.
The story was typical Baldacci: Intriguing, suspenseful, complex and it moved. I love the new character(s). I look forward to more.
Roby: A Balducci character
Julie: Hope he keeps her in the stories
Vance: She was straight and tough
That's unrealistic, but I walk 5 miles every morning and this motivated me to get out there.I have the books in my GPS so I listen to it every time I walk and every time get in the car...even if it is a short run to the grocery store.
Loved the book

Excellent story; well written, really excellent narration, and exceptional production equals a thoroughly appreciated purchase. This story is great...the timing is perfect for this type of story, complicated enough to engage your mind. Narrators were excellent. The icing is the production. It's like they appreciate the purchase enough to give it that extra talent and time. I just really enjoyed. Thank you Audible and all involved.
I like a good CIA "figure it out as you go" thriller. This is right up there in a list of my favorites.
I once worked with a librarian who mentioned prescription writers. She went on to explain that some authors have a certain format for writing. The main story and characters are different but process and how the story is carried out is the same in most books. Baldacci falls into this category of writer. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, I happen to like the style he uses. The flow of this book is identical to "Zero Day" that I read several months ago. If you liked "Zero Day", you will like "The Innocent". If you like "The Innocent", go get "Zero Day". They may not be completely believable, but they are a good read and an interesting story. I hated to stop listening when I got to work. In my opinion both are excellent book and well worth the credit.
I've read several reviews that didn't like two readers. I completely disagree. I first heard these two performers when I listened to "Zero Day". I really enjoyed the chemistry they had. It made the book feel more real. I actually could believe these people existed. When listening the "The Innocent", it was like a listening to my old friends again. I think Orlagh has gotten better with this book. She is required to play several voices and does so very well.
I am looking forward Baldacci's next book. I wish he could write a little faster. :)
Up there...liked the main character and the young girl. I would highly recommend this book.
Like the young girl
Buy it you will enjoy it.
Mom of three
Yes. It's a very entertaining read.
I like Robie. I'm not sure he's a very realistic character, but if I want realistic, I'll go to Walmart. Robie is very respectable, kind, and his character develops during the book. I think that is essential in a good read.
They add the masculine and feminine sides and make the flow of conversation easier to discern. There were a few times that having the same female read all of the remale characters was a bit confusing, but I think it added more than it detracted.
I think I did tear up at the end. The little girl has such a sad life and has to face so much. The end is touching.
I do not think the sound-effects and music add to the book. I think it is distracting. I know it's a performance, but it's a book -- not a movie.
The book kept me guessing the entire time until the end.
This story outlined a real kind of threat any nation could face.
This was a really good book and I listened to it in multiple parts to try and figure it out on my own.
Looks can be deceiving and this country is faced with threats similar to the one in this book, and it takes strong law enforcement to protect This country.
