I'll admit upfront that I rarely read/listen to a fantasy book that I hate. But this series was exceptional - so much so that I finished it the first time and literally started over from the beginning a moment later. Yes, I'm leaving this review after 2 times through all three books in the series. The character development is phenomenal, the plot is gripping, and I feel like I need time to recover the loss of old friends before I move on to something new. Thank you, Mr Sullivan.
Good narrator. The plot was interesting. The author keeps giving the next scene away. I'm not sure if that is intentional or not at this point. I recommend this book for those who like fantasy.
This series will submerge you into a world that has you dreaming of conspiracy and magic. The characters are incredible and you become very much involved in their lives throughout the book. A must read! You won't be able to put it down.
Changed accent of Gwen since I last listened. Only complaint. Keep me reading and scoffed when they said the end.
Two experienced thieves,Hadrian Blackwater and Royce Melborn, accept a way-too-easy job from a desperate person. What can possibly go wrong?
The main characters are not the typical heroes, as both dedicate themselves to a not-so-honest profession but they do have their own code of honor and justice. And there is humor too, which is a real asset to the story. What I also liked about the book is that women play quite an important role, and they are not merely circumstantial characters. Otherwise, it is quite a traditional and easily predictable fantasy book.
But I really enjoyed the first part of the book better. As you read along, the story slows down. The character development is not always convincing, and the explanations and the descriptions are sometimes too lengthy!
Overall, the story and its characters are interesting and promising, even though the pace could be more even and the explanations shorter.
Was easy to listen to, did find at times it became dry and hard to keep up.
