Characters are believable and deep, with a self-awareness that never takes itself too seriously, while also being thoughtful and poignant.
The Two protagonists are perfect, performing a running commentary on the world and events the closely mirrors that of the reader, lending a huge degree of relateability and buy in.
Tim Reynolds 'voices' have been grating and distracting in other titles, but his dour to whimsical range works perfectly for this book.
Poet at Heart
The narrator brought the work to life! Not only was his a stellar performance the story is so wonderfully thought out and crafted that you feel as though you are watching a movie unfold in your mind. The characters are 3 dimensional; they retain an air of mystery that walks hand-in-hand with the plot. This book offers surprises, so that the reader is not held hostage by traditional formulaic meanderings.
The evolution of the characters married with the plot.
His ability to support each character's personality; their voices and individualized verbal nuances was masterful!
A world where nobility and mysticism birth a wonderful world empire filled with drama and enchantment....
GREAT read!!!!! Getting the other 2 books of this series ASAP!
Recommend to all
Both main characters. Never laughed so much at the interactions between two characters.
After the first hour of listening I forgot all about the reader, and just enjoyed the book. Great job
Might be a bit long but other than that yes I would.
Husband, father of two, IT support for large generic Pharma company, I am a gamer, and a Fantasy, SciFi lover.
I started this book, and after a two days (about two hours) I could not help but feel I had herd this story before. Going back through my old Audio books I did. This book was on Podiobooks, up to the end to book1. Then book two starts.
Well any way this is a very cool adventure! I love the writing, and the narration. I can't wait to get started on the next book.
I have listened to it five times. I have never done this with any other story.I Love it!!!
I cannot give you one person but it is definetly Royce and Hadrian together, their friendship and all it embodies.
He could read the phone book and it would be wonderful!!!!!
I so wish he had performed many other titles that were okay, because he would have made them excellent.
My extreme reaction would be that I am on my fifth listen,I find everything else flat.
Buy it, the whole series you will not regret the spend of credits , it just gets better and better and you feel like you have left wonderful friends when over. It leaves one hungry for more and more!!
I am a sucker for a good story
A quick and fun read. There is enough here to make me want to continue reading the series. I think that is a testament in itself - that there is some entertainment value here.
I listened to this whole series and it's good fantasy without the fluff. Storyteller is great. Characters were personable and well developed. One of the best series I've listened to in a while.
Loved this book! So excited for the next one I immediately downloaded it!! I recommend this book to anyone who wants something exciting to read or listen to as I did.
I put this book up there with works like the Wheel of Time and Warbreaker. It's a great epic fantasy that puts you in the middle of plot twist after plot twist - and it always comes tantalizingly close to giving you the information you seek. Luckily, this author is great when it comes to plot resolution, and explains the majority of things that you'll want to know - you just need to read further!
One cool feature of this book is this: Halfway through, you will have completed what you might consider a "full story", but you're only halfway! It was very rewarding to feel like I was experiencing the "next chapter" while still reading the same book. I hate waiting :)
Wheel of Time and Warbreaker. Same quality and style.
It's in the top 10.
There are so many interesting characters, and the reader does a fine job of sorting them out by voice and pacing of speech. One of my favorite parts was when Roice & Hadrian met with Ezra because Ezra's speech sounded Shakespearean. The reader did such a great job of this without missing a beat. When Ezra's speech got modern, the pacing and vocal characterization were still consistent.
No. I wanted to spread it out and savor it. I look forward to listening to the others in the series.
