The writing is just amazing, there are no annoying author "habits" that can get on your nerves, like catch phrases or bad characters. Tim Gerard Reynolds is a great narrator and is as smooth as glass to listen to.
It's just good. I mean really good. Fantastic characters, amazing writing, just a perfect book.
This is my first time with Tim Gerard Reynolds, but it won't be the last. I plan to listen to the whole series as well as the follow up series the Riyira Chronicles.
These thieves will steal your heart!
I couldn't be more happy with a book and I'm so pleased that this is a series so I can get to know all the wonderful characters and backstory even more.
I'm an LMT originally from the Caribbean Islands of Trinidad and Tobago. I lived in NYC off and on for 15 years. I decided I had enough of long cold winters so summer of 2012 I relocated and now live in sunny Sarasota FL and loving every moment of it. My favorite thing to do is lay on the beach all day long listening to the waves and a great audible book.
Yes I would recommend the whole series. I read all 5 books starting with The Chronicles. Now that I have finished both series, I loved it so much, I immediately started reading it again starting this time with the Revelations. Now that I am reading for the second time around there is so much more meaning to little clues that the author left and such deeper understanding to the greater scheme of things.I think it really does not matter which set you read first, these 2 series are so complete and well developed that each set holds it's own. This book is really 2 books in one which adds so much value to it.
Besides the lead characters, Myron was my favorite in all the books in which he played a part. So pure and almost childlike in his discovery of the world outside the Abby. He is so funny and lovable while just being his brilliant but clueless, selfless and awestruck self.
My favorite scene was when Royce, Hadrian, Myron and Ulrich journeyed into Grutara to come face to face with the prisoner Ezra. The entire scenery and characters inside the prison was epic and breathtaking. Would love to see it translated into film cinematography.
Swords and Prisons. A story of lost Kings and Warriors and their journey back to themselves.
These books are 2 complete stories that continue one into the other. Great value and best credits I ever spent!!!...
Highly I would not only recommend this series but I would pester them to read/listen to this series.
The friendship between Hadrian and Royce the two main characters. As the stories go on you really get involved with them and really start to care about them. Mr. Sullivan really knows how to write a good book. I laughed and I cried and you will become emotionally invested in these characters not just the main characters either. I loved the 1st book but it even gets better in book 2 (which is included).
No this was my first and I do so he does a great narration. Every character has their own voice and he does remarkably well female characters. He really makes them come alive.
I don't know....just you have to see this movie? It would have to be a few movies as they could not fit it all in without ruining the story.
I have really added this my series to my all time favorites. One thing to note there are 6 books in this series audible releases them 2 books per purchase but they do have a ending to each book so if you read one out of order it would still have a conclusion that would not feel like you where missing something.
There are some parts that are a bit slow but the funny parts are great, was laughing while driving down the road. Hope the rest of the series turns out the same.
If you are in the mood for a light, fun read without gore, sex, and foul language, this is the book for you. It is clean enough for an 8 year old to listen to it, exciting enough to keep a pre-teen enchanted through the entire telling, and deep enough to entertain adults.
Theft of Swords is probably the worst of the trilogy, but it really is a very good book (4 stars out of 5). The two that follow it are even better. This is one book (and series) that won't disappoint
Like action, adventures, war stories, militay happenings, historical readings-fiction, & mysteries. Unabridged only! Reader IMPORT!
Very, very, enjoyable tale in the 17th century of, England (?) Full of adventures, chuckles, sword fighting, and light romance.
For those who like to read about a flying monster that has a appetizing need for meat. All kinds of flesh! That I'm sure will TASTE your fancy...!?!
I have read a lot of epic book series in my time, but this one has to be my favorite. I loved the characters, I loved their adventures, I loved the secrets, and I LOVED the ending. Honestly, I don't think that there is anything I DIDN'T like about the Riyria Revelations.
The first word that comes to mind when thinking about this book is "generous." Michael Sullivan's initial introduction to the characters and world of Theft of Swords would be a stand alone book if written by some other authors, but for him it is just the start of a rollicking series of adventures. The episodic nature of the stories in this book is reminiscent of Fritz Lieber's Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser series. However, that is not to say that this book is in any way a pastiche, the characters in this book are both lighter and more concentrated, but it does have that same spirit of episodic story telling involving two swashbuckling rogues.
The characters are likeable, the world is rich and detailed, and the action moves along at a fast pace. I really loved this book and look forward to the next one in the series.
Yes! Absolutely! In fact, I've already done so, several times over. This is the first book in a fabulous action-adventure fantasy series that hits the ground and doesn't stop. The basics of the story are that, basic. Standard archetypal characters, typical questing story in a world that feels, familiar. However, where I think the author succeeds is in writing a fun, fast-paced story with well-written and vibrant characters. I was totally engaged and found myself looking for every available opportunity to sneak a listen!
Harry Potter series (Jo Rowling), Lord of the Rings, The Dark is Rising series (Susan Cooper), Pillars of the Earth & World Without End, Inheritance series
Hadrian, Myron and Thrace
Yes - I got completely caught up in this story and felt a lil' bit like a drug addict waiting for a fix while I was waiting for Rise of Empire to download. It was bad in the best way possible.
I enjoyed it so much I've started listening to the entire series again, and I only finished it last night!
It is so amazingly good.
Hadrian (sp?) - he is just so whimsical and good.
Really I can't pick out 1 scene because I marvel that the whole book is so riveting.
