Tangential, eclectic, avid listener... favorite book is the one currently in ear.
This one book broken into three parts... so if you purchase the first you will need to purchase the next two to complete the story. I listened to the beginning a few times without getting hooked (a little too YA)... but when I finally got into it... found it an enjoyable world he had created, with interesting rules and peoples. It is written for YA and because of the extensive violence during wars and battles it would not be a good read for younger children. The last book is darker than the end of Harry Potter series. Many of the main characters die in some pretty icky ways in the overcoming of evil. Although the plot had a predictable ending, getting there had some interesting turns and twists along the way. I agree the narrator improves with each book, but wasn't bad with the first. If you are purchasing this one, you have already read the first and this is very similar, although a bit slower as Jason returns and they work to unite people into fighting the emperor.
I would listen to this novel again, because the story is good but also there are gems of dialogue that inspire.
When Ferrin wonders if he can be trusted. He wonders if he is completely corrupt.
Deliver was clear and enthusiastic without being corny.
When Jason wonders what role he should play and if his work isn't finished. He asks this through out the book and it becomes an internal quest.
Thanks to Brandon Mull for a good read.
A dreamer who loves the adventures hidden in every story!!
Like the first I really enjoyed this installment in the series. While writing the review of this one, I have started on the 3rd and final installment of the Beyonders series. Brandon Mull is a very adapt author. He knows how to cultivate his characters and adequately how to keep the reader interested in the story. This is probably one of the best YA fictions I have read.
This one starts off a bit slow, but still is a fun listen. Good narration. I like this series
Well written, great story, this book is the reason why I love young adult fiction. Highly recommend this series and this author.
This was as good as the first. You will find yourself drawn deeper into this world. The only down side is now I have to wait for the next book to come out.
As with the Fablehaven series, this book is even better. Great action, fast paced, very clean for all ages I highly recommend this book to anyone.
As for the performance it was great, I was waiting for one of the characters to say "I'm Batman" but it didn't happen (I'll let you guess who that character was) JK
Can't wait for the rest of the books!
I seriously enjoyed the Beyonders series. I loved the storyteller as well. It made the book really enjoyable. I can't wait for the next one to come out. It leaves you at the end hanging in each one! This is by far the best Brandon Mull book I have read.
I bought the first two of this series in a 'buy 2 get 1 free' sale. I listened to both of them but it was a bit tedious. The problem is that the story is about 2 juveniles (13yo) written in a juvenile manner. The basic premise is great but there is no character development, no real world building and really little more than a conglomeration of interesting encounters set in a very broad framework of 'bad guy rules the world'. I've been really sick with the flu and these books required little attention and even if you fell asleep for an hour while listening, you wouldn't miss anything in terms of action. Duels are started and completed within about six sentences, You may find the central character doomed to a life of imprisonment and torture and within a few paragraphs the 13 year old boy is rescued easily by a friend.
I would say this is perfect for the young teen to read but I remember that Harry Potter was perfect and still challenged and held the imagination of those who read the series.
I was disappointed.
