I would recommend this audiobook because the setting was unique, yet you could vividly imagine yourself there. And the narrator did a beautiful job of fitting into the role and expressing the different characters as well.
I liked that it was calm at times but still had its action packed moments.
She brought life to the main character that wouldn't have been as clear as reading it. The consistant astonishment in the British accent was entirely comical!
I practically did! I was entirely engulfed from the beginning.
I received The Rook as a gift and wasn't at all sure of what I was getting.
At first, I thought it was young adult science fiction or a "girl power" sort thing. I was wrong. Slowly and without my becoming fully aware if it, I was pulled in and became really involved in the story. I liked the protagonist and wanted to know more about her past and her present, was interested in what would happen to her in the future. I was fascinated by the "historical" passages, and at the end of the book I wanted more stories from The Rookery.
The narration is of the best kind - smooth and as transparent as the window in an observation chamber. You really feel as though you're listening to the protagonist herself.
This is a very good light novel, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to science fiction and fantasy fans of any age or sex.
Good narration and a story line that was engaging and kept you in a state of smile to laughter and yet retained a atmosphere of suspense. A female Bourne/Bond/Potter character who is a reluctant hero. I was never bored during the read.
smashup a Bourne book, Bond story, and a few chapters of Harry Potter. Although I hate to say Potter and really think it would be more along the lines of Tim Powers book. I look forward to more stories in the future.
The hero, she did this best. The male characters occasionally went into the creepy sounding realm, but it is always a challenge for a narrator to cross gender roles and remain credible in their performance.
I did laugh a few times during its course. I usually listen while walking or doing work that a books distraction is welcome. The story wasn't complicated, but I hated missing a detail and rewound frequently to get a higher than average comprehension during this book.
Looking forward to more.
I loved the performance of the reader.
It's great fun, action movie style.
The big reveal in the end.
Fearing I may go mad at the sheer monotony of my desk job, I quickly developed a love for audio books. I've been hooked ever since.
The book? Yes. The audiobook? No, not by this narrator, at least.
Honestly, not sure.
From what I listened too, the story was very good, and very intriguing. I did not, however, finish the book. The narration was really, really bad.
living life and happy about it
If they like this genre, I would definitely recommend this book. It kept me interested throughout. The author created an interesting sub rosa world.
I liked the structure of the world the main character inhabited, the jobs she did, her co-workers and mystery the pulled the story forward.
I liked the reader overall but she doesn't do male voices well.
The pitch of the narrator's voice and the tinny sound of the recording, I could not get past the second chapter it was too off-putting. :(
Kept me guessing throughout. Would like to see more of this storyline to be written.
Love this book! Love the narration - her accents and voice for different characters is fantastic. I love urban fantasy and this book has an interesting take on the supernatural. THe mystery and the premise of the book will keep you entertained. Highly recommend.
Reader of all things science fiction, fantasy, mystery and paranormal.
The Rook ranks at the top of the audiobooks I've purchased in 2012. I found it fresh, fun, and unexpected. Sort of a men-in-black with supernatural creatures instead of aliens.
