Definitely. This was the first David Weber fantasy novel I listened to as I am more familiar with his Sci Fi novels. However this was a fantastic novel that added some cool twists to the typical fantasy setting.
I loved the uniqueness of the world and how the author managed to touch on racism in society without beating your head over the head with it.
This was my first book performed by Nick Sullivan and I loved it. He has great vocal range and injects a lot of emotion into the work.
I am not going to ruin it but lets just say Bahzell has a unique relationship with his diety :)
This book was well worth the credit. if you are looking for a good fantasy book this one is it. It' funny, exciting, has great characters and full of adventure. A big thumbs UP to Nick Sullivan for bringing this sorry to life.
My first David Weber series was the "Empire of Man" books. In that he took the main character, Prince Roger, from someone that I loved to hate to someone I hated to see end. He is one of the top character developing writers that I have read. His books make me laugh out loud at the dialog that the main characters go through, while maintaining a story that keeps me well involved.
Probably Brandark Brandarkson, the main character's side-kick. Witty, dangerous, insightful, a really well done supporting character.
Sullivan does a great job here with making you believe in the characters. You know who is talking based on his acting skills. It is really easy for a poor performance from a narrator to kill a good book, and Sullivan helps a great book be even better.
The Reluctant Hero
The narrator make the characters individual. I can identify everyone and can almost see what they look like and what they all are capable of. I really like the way they make me laugh the vulnerabilities. The respect is very really. I have gone to sleep and shook my self awake so I can finish a chapter. I really like this book.
Bahzell and his friend that is of a whole other race. He is so funny I like the way he just ride Bahzell. I also like the way the author is making a mystery of his god choice.
Yes he does. He makes a distinction between each place and person. How they arrived at the place the are. Pasts are explained clearly to let you know why the are the way they are. The revelations of past mistakes are so eye opening it makes me draw breathe. I will be looking for this author again.
Nothing. The change of voices makes you know who is speaking and what race they are from.
Well he could not give so much description of landscape and more romance.
I read Weber's Oath of Swords some years ago and enjoyed it greatly. I found it to be a solid fantasy world combined with engaging characters and fun combat. Having just gotten into audio books recently, I saw the title here and decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed in the slightest. Nick Sullivan does a fantastic job bringing the characters to life and truly captures the listener, bringing a new dimension to the story that I couldn't have imagined. Definitely worth getting.
I have never read the print version of this book but hearing it read I find it easier to get a picture in my mind of the characters.
I liked the way the two main characters who are supposed to be enemies stick by each other even at the risk of their own life.
Nick Sullivan brought a certain depth to the characters that kept it interesting.
If my wife would have let me I could see myself listening to this in one sitting.
A Book Addict who found she could clean house and get her book fix with audio books.
I enjoyed this book! The reading of it makes the characters stand out and be noticed. A classic epic fantasy that follows the same footsteps as Eddings, Butcher, and Brooks. The audio makes it stand out from the crowd.
I think a younger audience interested but less familiar with the fantasy genre might enjoy this story.
I think this is a competent story, but not very interesting.
The performance did not match the topic. The voice was too deep and reading a bit stilted so that none of the humor in the story played through very well.
I'm a teacher, and it's my policy to NOT give any 100%s for work done by anyone especially me. ( I figure there's always room for improvement.) If you want to know more about what I think, check out the review for War Maids Choice. Thank you.
