It's in the mid range for me because I like the series but this book seemed built up from the previous titles only to let you down a little with a few confusing turns and twists that weren't really necessary. A very good plot only to not live up to its potential.
I like Showalter and would probably "read" another book by her an audio isn't worth my time and money.
Max had a range of voices and the tones/inflections were different than what I would have imagined myself.
Lord of Sex
must read: darynda jones, Karen moning, Ilona Andrews, kim harrison, gena showalter, Karen chance, patricia briggs, jeaniene frost ,L taylor,
this book was really everything i hoped it would be. this series is so much fun you really should try it. you need to try it from the beginning. each book focuses on one couple's romance but there is a back story and building of other characters if you were to just pick this one up and read it you'd be lost. the romance is steamy, there is wit and fast paced action. the story is good and although there are things from each book that repeat there is enough to make them unique and keep me thouroughly entertained! This one had some twists i totally didn't see coming and i loved it!
Mom, cupcake froster at local gourmet shop, and avid listener to books while doing said frosting or housework. True audiobook addict!
Being a fan of the Lord's of the Underworld, when I saw that Gena had released her latest installment, I could not get it in my cart and onto my iPod quick enough! I had plans for my credits (to help me finish out a different series) but those plans were quickly tossed aside - I could not wait to hear Paris' story!
If you have not been following LOTU then you need to start with the first book and work your way to this point - you will NOT be disappointed. Each book features a demon possessed Lord through their inner struggles with their demon, their trials, and how they might find someone to love...
We have been seeing tidbits of Paris' story through the last few books. I sat on the end of my seat wondering when we would get the full picture and hoping the next book would be about him. With that finally happening, I was not disappointed in the least!
The story is filled with ups and downs, steamy love scenes (how can there not be with Paris' demon being "Sex"!), and a peek into new characters' lives. Even though there are steamy scenes, this book does have great content. I hung on every word and every scene - even the ones not involving Paris' and his woman. And at the end of the book I was wishing that I had another to listen to straight away.
As for performance, Max Bellmore is amazing (as usual!). He is brings the characters to life, as any true voice actor should, which helps to paint the best picture in my mind's eye as to what is happening. I would probably listen to anything he read!
Huge thumbs up to Gena and Max!
Max reads beautifully and it enhances the storyline.
Anya is always funny and William is intriguing - tie.
It would spoil too much to say
Good progression in the series and future points revealed
I love being swept away by a new romance and thankfully Audible's ever growing Library means I get to indulge myself over and over again
I couldn't wait for this next instalment and it saddens me to say that it had a very slow start, seemed to have too many sub-stories going on but it eventually got better and had an ending you'd never expect. Spoilt too by the narrator - I doubled the speed to get through it - so not one of her best I'm afraid.
But if you like the LOTU series then it's a must I'm afraid.
Something about yourself.
It depends on the friend. There are some "earthy" scenes. (wink) The title overall was very well done and I have listened to Lords of the Underworld from the beginning. This was one of the better ones not that they aren't all good. I hate to say that the books on the Keeper of Pain and Keeper of Secrets were disturbing and not in a fun way. I would recommend it because it was a very satisfying chapter in the series.
I liked the way conflict was created. It sparked my imagination and was not too frustrating. The characters were strong and it felt believable. The story of Paris has been long awaited by me and it was not disappointing. One of my favorite books in this series was Gideon's story and this one was even better. The story had the continuation of some of the recurring plot lines and I wonder how she is going to get them out of those fixes. The reunion of the 'family' was very well done. I loved the ending!
He is the voice of the Lords. He has a signature style that complements the series and is very talented. He makes the tale believable and adds suspense, tension and humor.
It made me snicker when I see the teasing. I love a sense of fun when the subject can be dark and you need some comic relief.
If you are a fan of the Lords of the Underworld this is one you need if you are stranded on a deserted island.
The best so far!!
I totally agree with the one comment about how the narrator has juicy mouth. It totally grossed me out every time he swallow his spits. It's soooo gross!! Over all, the story was great! He had a good voice. I loved it all BUT I can hear him everytime he swallow a mouth of of his saliva!! Ewwwww... So gross.
The story was okay and the background story looks promising. My only problem is the narrator juicy mouth. I hate to hear the swallowing of spit every pause he makes. I don't blame him I blame the editors... I know they have programs to edit watery mouth. I cringe inwardly when I hear him swallowing mouth full of spit. Ahhhhhh ewwww yuck!!!!
Top of the heap!!!
I love the Black Dagger Brotherhood because the have special powers too in that series.
You get drawn in when he speaks...you don't even have to try. It's just automatic to know who is who. I really enjoy that , not when you have to try to figure out who is talking 'now' when you are in the middle of the story. He is fantastic.
I love the end where Paris says..he is King over his boys now...I had to laugh on that one....I did love when she just cut off this head!!! That was a fantastic part too!
How convoluted the story line was.
Nope, it's the one of the few books I just couldn't finish.
