Hathaway does a respectable job narrating the book, but some of her voice characterizations were so annoying that I had to force myself to finish the book.
This book has been made into one of the greatest movies of all time. The movie improves on the book by leaving out the last part of the book (the China people).
I wasn't sure if the book/story was a waste of my time or if it was just Hathaway's voices that made it seem interminable.
Yes - the kids enjoyed it and we listen to audio books on long trips.
Its different to the movie - as all books are - and I like it better.
I have only seen her movies but I would be inclined to look out for other audio books narrated by her in the future.
Characters have their own voices and she reads to children exceedingly well.
I've never actually read the wonderful wizard of Oz, so thought I'd download it as an audiobook. It turns out I made a fantastic choice, this book is considered a classic for a reason! While different to the popular movie, the story has many similarities. It's a charming story, with enough differences from the movie to make it worth reading/listening to. My enjoyment of this audiobook was greatly increased by Anne Hathaway's narration - she was fantastic! If she narrates any other books I would definitely like to listen to them. Her voices, tone and inclination were perfect, really drawing you into the story. While you could definitely tell it was her reading, that just added to the effect. I strongly recommend downloading this audiobook, I don't think you'll regret it.
Anne Hathaway is SO GREAT at reading this amazing classic. She does so many voices for each and every character. Her narration brings to life the intrigue, the trepidation, the fun, the kindness, the curiosity, the friendships, the courage and plucky-ness of Dorothy and her cohorts on their journey.
I can't recommend it enough.
Yes. Each one case its merits. In this case Anne's performance is the game changer.
I am not a fantasy/fiction reader. However I value this book on the subtle moral values it pushes to children. In a day and age where parents do not devote much quality time, children are nannied, exposed to various hedonistic influences the need for quality and wholesome content cannot be overelaborated.
Voice Acting. You can imagine the world but it is entirely different to behold a class act. Her reading style is highly topical and engaging.
None. But the book is a classic and needs no introduction. It is a allegory and hence makes you reflect at times. It is fun overall but not extreme.
Anne you need to read much more as from a social cause perspective. Engaging voice acting which the whole family enjoys is a great way to connect and fans.
Anne Hathaway did an amazing job on the voices of the characters. She really brought the performance to life!
My only other exposure to this story was the TV movie. I enjoyed the reading immensely, and also seeing which parts had been changed in the movie. It definitely qualifies as a children's story in my opinion, however, so I was okay that the book wasn't any lengthier than it was.
I had no idea there was so much more to the story of the Wizard of Oz than what cinema brought us. I grew up watching the movie on tv my whole life but never read the original. I was captivated by the beautiful job Anne Hathaway did...so much more than a narration! The personalities that she performed for each character painted such a beautiful illustration of the book. I loved the story and the performance.
I like sci-fi and fantasy as well as an occasional good mystery.
As a classic this story ranks up towards the top. I really enjoyed the spirit Ms. Hathaway brought the reading.
I find that I get more out of listening to books than reading them. It allows my mind to think about what is happening while it was being read. Plus this was a great road trip book.
I would have loved to listen to this book all at once. Unfortunately the drive wasn't long enough.
I would recommend this to any listening with young children.
Exciting, Fun, Different
What I liked and enjoyed most was how vastly different this book is from the very famous film. Dorothy and her friends truly embark upon a journey that takes quite a long time and leads them to encounter things that weren't at all like the movie.
Anne's acting background is ever present, to be honest I think this may be her best acting performance to date.
It was, but since I started it at night, I listened to it in 2 sittings instead!
I truly don't think the film did justice to the amazing brilliance of the book. So much was lost in that adaptation and sadly I feel like many people won't bother reading the book because they think they know the story, they don't at all!
Read it again ! !
Getting from one place to the other for them.
Yes but couldn't and glad because it didn't end too quickly : - )
