I really really loved the first half of this book, and found it in many ways superior to the movie that I've known and loved since childhood.
Once the story veered into the unknown however, I found that it dragged, and was almost boring.
Anne Hathaway's narration was sensational, she actually gave me goosebumps in places. Highly recommended.
I've read the Wizard of Oz before and loved the movie as a child. Anne Hathaway's performance really brought it to life again. As much as I liked the Judy Garland movie, I hope one day there will be a movie that is closer to the original story by Baum. In the meantime I will listen to this book again!
Classic fairy tale
The choices of ancillary character voices were odd to me. A goose with a valley girl accent, an Emerald City citizen with an over the top speech impediment that seemed like Sylvester the Cat and Daffy Duck amp'd up, etc. I think if she would have kept a more consistent, realistic set of character voices without getting too crazy I would have enjoyed it more.
I definitely laughed out loud a few times both because of the story and the odd performance.
It's a good listen, especially for such a wonderful story, I'd like to hear additional performances to compare.
I purchased this book for my 25 year old daughter to read as she is vision impaired and hasn't read many books in the last few years. She liked the idea of Kindle so I learnt her mine and I picked a story that she knew, to make it easier for her to get her interest back in reading or listening to audio books. She really loved listening to the voice of Anne Hathaway as Anne read The Wonderful World of Oz and is quite keen to listen to more audio books and purchase her own Kindle. I showed my daughter how to get the voice on Kindle to read any books to her but she didn't like it as much. As I am an avid reader, I will be purchasing a Kindle for my daughter for Christmas and many more audio books to come.
"Listening with my other ear"
I don't know if I would say better, but extremely enhanced! Ms. Hathaway is masterful in her reading. She is spot on with every voice and never drops charachter. She truly brought the book alive.
All of them
Haven't listened before, but I will be looking forward to the next one.
It would have been nice, but too long.
Interestingly magic fairytale.
The three unusual companions of Dorothy. The famous brainless scarecrow, the unhearted woodman made of tin, and the courageless lion, key characters on this fairytale.
Anne Hathaway narration was certainly something out of the ordinary, an outlier, an amazing narration indeed. I loved that trained voice of hers, but I loved even more her interpretation. I'd given her (and the story) all the stars I could, since I really enjoyed this recording.I'd definitely like to hear more books read from her, although I suspect that reading a rather large story, as it would be a novel, wouldn't be easy at all.
Probably the falling of the tin woodman over the rocks. Imagining him broken and fold into pieces was kind of sad, since he was the one capable of chopping off anything with his axe!.
Despite I knew very well the story, I had never read this book before. And I guess this may happen to everyone who has seen the classic film of the Wizzard of Oz. As a matter of fact, when I was listening the story I had an interesting mixture of the characters, sometimes in black and white, and sometimes in full color, due to the memory recalls I got from the movie.I really enjoyed the whole audiobook, and I'll surely hear it again.
Yes, it was a delightful story with so much more detail than the movie.
Dorothy, of course. Aren't we all looking for something out of reach and all need to learn that our true heart's desire is right here at home?
Anne Hathaway did an outstanding job with each of the characters.
Too many to count.
I ordered the story for my grandson who is reading the book in his English class at school. His teacher is having them compare the written story to the movie and is also having them apply the lessons to what they see in real life. Once he returned my Kindle to me, I decided to listen to it myself. So glad I did!

The wisdom of the former magician & ventriloquist when he gives hope and courage to the puppy friends of Dorothy. A masterpice that can teach us a lot about how we should be to people around us.
Alice in Wonderland - very nice to get the whole story.
The modulation of her voice for the different characters in the tale.
When the lion got courage.
It is fantastic that a book on less than four hours can be so exiting.
imaginative, classic, fun for all
My girls related best with Dorothy, but I think the Lion is my favorite.
Great Expression, and a sweet narrative.
