Love this series, but this book was so out of character for Rachel. Who was this self doubting some what wishy washy woman. I hope this is the last we see of her. Glad to see Trent step up more and Ivy step back, but the Pixie and Al have got to stay, too funny most of the time. Great Narration, you will still want to hear this book even though not her best.
She is so GOOD! Love to listen to anything she reads.
Was it slow? Yes but Rachel is at a turning point, she has had to come with the terms of her new status, give her some room. Harrison is building a new plot again she needed this filler book to get us there. I missed Al he will definitely be around in the future.
Kim Harrison continues a good story with action and three different segments to the story line. I love the reader, she makes the character's in the stories believable. Kim Harrison unlike many other supernatural stories does not turn to sex to sell her books.
Marguerite Gavin performs all the characters well. She is one of the best readers out there.
There is something missing.
I feel the last few book have been lacking... and this is no exception.
As always, I believe Marguerite Gavin always does a stellar job. She brings the characters to life.
Cover to cover.
I am a huge die hard Kim Harrison fan and I understand at point of a story line the reader will not always agree with the way of the author. However, the last few book I have no idea where she is going with the story and I'm not really sure if I care enough to see how it all turns out. It seems Rachel has been making so many bad choices/decisions that it is almost too painful to ready/listen to. Ususally as a character evolves they try not to make the same mistakes as they have in the past, where as Rachel keeps screwing up. I understand relationships change throughout a series, but Trent? Really?
Where is Al?
I have NEVER had to put together such a review that I was so disappointed and ashamed to write especially about one if my top 3 authors.
I do like kick butt chick vampire slayers
Yes, some narrators that just give a book another dimension
There are some many different aspects to this story line it is difficult to compare it has it all, witches, vampires, fairies and demons.
Bringing the characters to life for me
On Hallowed ground comes love, friendship and survival
No. I would tell them they could skip this installment. No character growth.
So disappointing. This book just was not interesting.
Marguerite is an excellent narrator.
avid reader and busy mother of twins
Absolutely recommended! The narrator did a commendable job adding different vocal nuances to the various characters, and the storyline is fantastic, especially if you have been following the entire series.
I never go jogging (or walking!) without my Audible book!
With magic, a story can go anywhere, anything can happen. That's what I love about this series. I have come to expect everything and nothing, and am always pleasantly surprised.
Go Rachel, go!
Musician for the times
The latest Kim Harrison Hollows book is strong and exciting. I love the slightly flirtatious interaction between Rachel and Trent, and, as always, the messes Rachel manages to end up in. Yet each one is taking us closer to the reality of just how important Rachel is, for humans as well as for interlanders. The Hollows is a place I am already sad to know I will be leaving as Kim as said there will only be two more books.
The sequence involving her time captured by HAPA and the escape. I wanting to reach in and tear the wire to loose!
For meMarguerite Gavin is the ONLY person who can do these books justice! I so missed her the one time she wasn't the reader. She puts so much life and character into her reading. I think my favorite is Trent. I love them all but her tones and inflection always tell me just where Trent is, from cool to exasperated to soft with his daughter.
The witch-demon-lady makes A Perfect Blood the Perfect Story!!
No one can get too much Rachel.
If you haven't read any of the Hollows series you really should not start here. While you likely wouldn't be lost you would be short changing yourself out of a lot of surprises.
That being said, people who are returning to the series will find more of the same. If you've enjoyed the books as much as I have that is good news.
Now I gave the story 4 stars because the main plot that has been developing across the recent books doesn't really progress much, which is a bit disappointing. Don't get me wrong the plot does introduce a new group of friends or foes? and adds a bit of character development.
As has been the case all along Marguerite Gavin continues her great performance and really adds a lot of enjoyment to the book. Without her these books might lose a lot.
In the end if you've read the last few Hollow's book you will really enjoy this one too but don't expect any great shifts or revelations. But it does a great job to set up the next book and I can't wait.
