This is the third time I have purchased A Princess Of Mars from Audible. Finally, something worth listening to! Thanky you Tantor Media for finally hiring a good reader.
I chose this production of the book because of the reviews of other readers. I think Scott Brick did a very good job. I've listened to samples of some of the other readers some of them are abysmal.
I've always loved reading Edgar Rice Burroughs, he captivated the essence of the human experience by pitting people with extraordinary character and willpower in uncharted worlds and told the tale of how they fought through it all for life love and happiness.
This book is no different. After the first time I READ this book, I wanted to go out and see what I was made of in this crazy world known as Earth. Scott Brick, the person who read this story, I gave five stars due to the fact that he still kept that feeling alive after i finished listening to this novel. John Carter is a book that anyone who is facing the odds in their life should read mainly because it will most certainly fuel them to beat the living crap out of their challenges they face. Well read Mr. Brick!
Since this is the first book I've listened to on tape, other books that I've read would be other works by Edgar Rice Burroughs, mainly the title "The Land that Time Forgot."
No I have not but I look forward to it.
It made me want to climb a mountain with my bare hands.
Fantastic Incredible Repeat
Knowing there was more to come when I finished it
Too many to chose from
Gave me an amazing sense of adventure
At Last we have a narrator (Scott Brick) worthy of this fantastic sci-fi series. Please Please Please let him do the whole series. You can bet that your sales will go through the roof!!
I have been waiting years for the proper narrator and now it seems like they finally got it right HOORAY!!!
Mars, princess, and violence.
It seems to me as if the Barsoom novels were written for Scott Brick to narrate as John Carter. This guy is well worth the money for an audiobook.
I just came off of Dune, and since this was written in the early 1900's I am impressed. However, it feels like there isnt enough detail, and comes across as being an abridged version. Anyone else get this? This wont stop me from grabbing the next one.
Pretty high. I really enjoyed it. I was amazed at how good it was given it's age
He is just a fantastic reader.
LOL. I think somebody already did that....
The book and the movie are not polar opposites, but they do tell different stories. I highly recommend the book. I was amazed that it is now 100 years old. I hope that they hire Scott Brick to read the remainder of the series. Many of the subsequent books don't have great reviews on performance.
I wish I had known about this book series as a teenager (when I had more time to sit and read). I would have eaten them up!
This explains a lot more than what the Movie did. I read this as a boy, and then saw the movie and was confused. This explains a lot more than the movie ever could in the relatively short 2 hours. You have to read the 2nd and 3rd book to see how the movie was condensed. But this was an excellent reading and well worth my time.
After seeing the movie and being intrigued by the storyline, I had to get this book. I was not disappointed with this read. Sure there were places and parts that were a little too unbelieveable or dragged out, but the ending was a solid right hook that left me with a lump in my throat.
It's the scifi story that begat all scifi stories. What's not to love? It's good ol fashioned scifi fun.
John Carter. Woola.
