My hands are always busy--I'm always working on something, all day long. Audiobooks keep my mind happily occupied, thankyou Audible.
Harlan Coben is an awesome writer. He weaves warmth and a sense of tenderness into his tales of suspense/danger. He's my new favorite writer. Narration was so-so. Voice sounds too "old" for the characters in this one.
I have a love/hate relationship with books that I can't put down. I love to find them, but hate that I don't want to do anything else. This is one of those books. What else matters?
This was my first HC book. I was a touch lost at first but once I started over, I got used to the tone the narrator was using. Good book, a little surprised at the ending. All in all a good "read".
Great mystery, well developed characters. This story brings together individuals from vastly differing backgrounds and melds them carefully into one intriguing plot.
A great "who-done-it" with a satisfying ending.
Could not get past the first few chapters. I love Harlan Coben but just couldn't listen to this narrator.
I think this author is climbing up my "go to" author list. The characters in this book are forced to behave out of their comfort zones to walk the paths that eventually lead to the answers they are seeking and I think they were wishing they had given up their answers long ago. The main character has a secret. By mid book I knew the secret. . Turns out so did the person he had been hiding it from. The clues given absolutely add up to the conclusion but could be seen from a different angle and throw you off track. While I thought I knew the who and why of it, I was not spot on and understood I had matched the clues in such a way as to be right on my analysis. Totally enjoyed this book.
I gave the performance a three because although the narration did seem to fit our main character, he seemed almost bored in places that could have used a little more emotion. He was not annoying however and his character voices were believable and appropriate.
Nurse, mom, loved to read....but now I love to listen. When I retire I hope to hear waves crashing in 1 ear and audible in the other!
I really liked this listen, the narrator was great but the story was familiar. A sinister family, witness protection and a heartbroken man. I bought it on sale otherwise I may have felt I wasted a credit.
Say something about yourself!
Boring, moves so slowly, I keep loosing concentration, yes it is that bad. Do your self a favor and don't bother.
Not his best work
Monotone and slow
. . . probably not . . .
Overall this was quite a decent yarn (and I would have likely rated it much higher), . . . HOWEVER . . . while narrating the story, the protagonist's incessant self-flagellating comments regarding his relationship with his spouse (i.e., "Corny. I know.") ruined what otherwise would have been an acceptable & entertaining story!
The narrator's self-flagellation was entirely unnecessary the first time. It was distracting the second time, irritating the third time, and so utterly exasperating by the end of the book that I won't likely buy another by this -otherwise rather decent author.
I would advise the narrator to have requested some edits on the self-flagellating & call it "abridged". Even he seemed exhausted by all the self-depreciating comments.
Too old for the character! His voice sounded like he was narrating a 60's detective drama.
I like the story but I shouldn't have to keep reminding myself that the character isn't a 60's TV detective wanna-be!
