Exciting, Scary, Romantic
That would be giving away the plot.
Her voice is fantastic for the piece.
How lonely the main character was.
Great book and series.
I Love reading and listening to books has made it a lot easier to continue with my very busy schedule and still indulge in my hobby!
Chilling, delicious and sexy
Stranded on the lonely highway at night, someone sitting in a darken car, without the headlights, Amelia without cell phone signal, and twin headlights appearing in the distance the moment she felt the end was unknown. Amelia ran into the streets like her life depended on it, and Detective John Devlin stepped out of his vehicle. That was my shortness of breathe moment.
My favorite scene was when John Devlin stood in the hall way of the restroom. Someone bumped into Amelia, and she landed on his crest. For a moment, she imagined John caressing her lips with feather like touch, and the barest touch to her lips.
My moving moment was when Detective John Devlin jumped down into a completely dark crevasse to protect Amelia when she screamed from unknown forces.
Three rules given to me by my father:
1. Never acknowledge the dead. If you do, they'll feed off your energy like parasites, slowly draining your life away.
2. Never stray too far from hallowed ground, you're safe there.
3. Keep your distance from people who are haunted. They are a terrible threat and can't be trusted.
4. Never, Aver tempt fate.
Simple rules, really. But for Amelia those rules have prevented her from having any kind of a normal life. Still, she finds happiness in her job as a respected cemetery restorer and has made a happy, if isolated, life for herself.
The performer, Khristine Hvam was spur with the southern accent. Made the book more enjoyable.
Say something about yourself!
Yes, most definitely. This is one of my favorite series. Khristine Hvam narrates this so well, I felt like I was there, and felt/experienced each character as tho I was meeting them in person. Can't wait for book number 4.
I'm happy that I found this series, and I do like to read reviews before starting a new series, and have to say I didn't agree with the less than glowing reviews. I truly LOVE this series.
I enjoyed this story, and look forward to listening to the rest of the series. My family is from the South, the Carolinas originally, and Kentucky and Tennessee, so I could relate to a lot of the relationships and behaviors. Many of my mother's family are buried in a cemetery in St. Louis called Oak Grove, so I got a kick out of much of the story taking place in a cemetery with the same name. And I love ghost stories! The narration was okay, but dragged a bit. I have a problem with narrators who do not have accents which are accurate for the region - the South has many different accents, and the narrator seemed to just take on a generic "Southern" accent, but I overlooked that. Overall, I highly recommend this book for Southern ghost story lovers.
Narrator struggles with her southern accents, but, the plot stays alive with undercurrents of desire and mystery. I would recommend!
I enjoy knitting while I listen. Science fiction and historical fiction are my favorite genre'. Also like some horror, especially vampires.
Though there were parts that ran on a big too slowly in my opinion, I like the premise of the story, the characters and the suspense. It's good as a stand-alone story but easily leads me to look forward to the next book. Certainly got me to thinking what I'd do if I could see ghosts the way she does. Now that would be an interesting super power!
I keep coming back to how she feels so drained of energy when she's been around HIM.
I enjoyed the scene where they are in the tomb and discover the entrance to the hidden room. Now THAT was CREEPY.
She sees ghosts and they know it.
This could easily become an HBO mini-series like True Blood.
I really enjoyed this book. It wasn't as scary as I thought it would be which is not a bad thing. The concept is great, but I had a lot of questions about who/what Amelia is. Hopefully these will get answered in the next book.
I have a quilting business. Since I love to read, I cannot read a book and quilt at the same time. Now I can listen to books and quilt too.
I enjoyed this book because it had a different 'take off' than many of the other 'ghost stories' that you read.
I don't compare this too much with any others. I try to be even and individual about each book. As I said, this book had a nicely done different take off than other books I have read in this genre.
The main character....I enjoyed her very much.
I love my graveyard
I think I most enjoyed the way the author had a different take on the whole ghost story/graveyard theme. Very nicely done.
Nurse, mom, loved to read....but now I love to listen. When I retire I hope to hear waves crashing in 1 ear and audible in the other!
I don't want to love this book but I do. It is beautifully written and narrated but the story went nowhere....You can only listen to descriptive words for so long. The ghost story, the murder mystery and the love story were minor elements, I need much more. This is a Book 1 and I suppose there is a Book 2...I have yet to find, where these mysteries will be further developed. Still searching.....
