I loved this audio book. The book was easy to follow and i was very surprised by the ending. I highly recomend this novel!
Audible started me reading fiction again. What a treat to have professional actors narrating a book I may not have had the time to "read".
Excellent writing. Fascinating story that will keep you riveted all the way to the end. Kudos to Grover Gardner,a marvelous narrator. A novel not to be missed!
Couldn't stop listening
This was my first experiencing listening in lieu of reading. I was mesmerized and couldn't stop listening. I am a lawyer and found the legal aspects to be very realistic, which is important. The story was wonderful, exciting and moving. The narrator was excellent. A great listen.
Very good 'read' that will not soon leave you. There were occasional times when the timeline was hard to follow, but they were written to where you soon caught on. Intriguing variation on the nature v.s. nurture debate with an ironic ending. The characters are rich and there are laugh out loud moments with contemporary dialog. You can feel this family reach into their socks for the courage to get through the grocery store. Excellent story & performance - I highly recommend this book.
Having just finished the book, I'm still reeling. The last hour was totally unexpected. It is definitely worth the time to listen.
I'd definitely listen to it again. I enjoyed the interesting, unique story. It was well-written, and well-read.
the end is very memorable and surprising.
Gardner performed every character well. He gave each person his own, distinctive voice. Captivating.
The main character's last comments were really heart-wrenching and profound. There were similar moments throughout the book.
This was so unexpected!! Excellent read!
I'm not sure about this.
Much more drama!
It made me gasp!
This book was so good I couldn't stop listening to it, the author and narrator were perfectly in sync.
No spoilers! Love HOT, sexy books w/a plot. No vampires, paranormal, teens 4 me. I also review in exchange for books-lots of fun surprises!
The constant suspense-did Jacob do it? The father's unending desire to protect his son.
Andy Barber has been an assistant district attorney in his suburban Massachusetts county for more than 20 years. He is respected in his community, tenacious in the courtroom, and happy at home with his wife, Laurie, and son, Jacob. But when a shocking crime shatters their New England town, Andy is blindsided by what happens next: his 14-year-old son is charged with the murder of a fellow student.
Every parental instinct Andy has rallies to protect his boy. Jacob insists that he is innocent, and Andy believes him. Andy must. He’s his father. But as damning facts and shocking revelations surface, as a marriage threatens to crumble and the trial intensifies, and as the crisis reveals how little a father knows about his son, Andy will face a trial of his own - between loyalty and justice, between truth and allegation, between a past he’s tried to bury and a future he cannot conceive.
Award-winning author William Landay has written the consummate novel of an embattled family in crisis - a suspenseful, character-driven mystery that is also a spellbinding tale of guilt, betrayal, and the terrifying speed at which our lives can spin out of control.

The ending is one shocking turn after another-no spoilers!. I agree with the other reviewer DO NOT READ TOO MANY REVIEWS or it will ruin the experience for the new reader.
It was strong and perfect for the cast of characters-mostly male; Boston, Irish and other accents.
Andy, his protectiveness of his son throughout all the 'challenges'.
I got this as a Daily Deal for under $6 but it is CREDIT WORTHY.
What would you do, how far would you go for your child?
This made me want to cry, but having raised four children and taught school for more than 20 years, I could certainly begin to relate to this family's quagmire. Incredibly sad story.
