This book was so good I couldn't stop listening to it, the author and narrator were perfectly in sync.
No spoilers! Love HOT, sexy books w/a plot. No vampires, paranormal, teens 4 me. I also review in exchange for books-lots of fun surprises!
The constant suspense-did Jacob do it? The father's unending desire to protect his son.
Andy Barber has been an assistant district attorney in his suburban Massachusetts county for more than 20 years. He is respected in his community, tenacious in the courtroom, and happy at home with his wife, Laurie, and son, Jacob. But when a shocking crime shatters their New England town, Andy is blindsided by what happens next: his 14-year-old son is charged with the murder of a fellow student.
Every parental instinct Andy has rallies to protect his boy. Jacob insists that he is innocent, and Andy believes him. Andy must. He’s his father. But as damning facts and shocking revelations surface, as a marriage threatens to crumble and the trial intensifies, and as the crisis reveals how little a father knows about his son, Andy will face a trial of his own - between loyalty and justice, between truth and allegation, between a past he’s tried to bury and a future he cannot conceive.
Award-winning author William Landay has written the consummate novel of an embattled family in crisis - a suspenseful, character-driven mystery that is also a spellbinding tale of guilt, betrayal, and the terrifying speed at which our lives can spin out of control.

The ending is one shocking turn after another-no spoilers!. I agree with the other reviewer DO NOT READ TOO MANY REVIEWS or it will ruin the experience for the new reader.
It was strong and perfect for the cast of characters-mostly male; Boston, Irish and other accents.
Andy, his protectiveness of his son throughout all the 'challenges'.
I got this as a Daily Deal for under $6 but it is CREDIT WORTHY.
What would you do, how far would you go for your child?
This made me want to cry, but having raised four children and taught school for more than 20 years, I could certainly begin to relate to this family's quagmire. Incredibly sad story.
I have not finished the book yet, I hope it ends on a lighter note. I stopped because it is hard to listen to a tale of a family disintegrating. I enjoy courtroom drama, and this book is well-written and wonderfully narrated. I just wish it had something upbeat about it.
Retired high school English teacher. I liked and worked with the at-risk student. Interested in about everything, but I love a good story.
This is a grim book enhanced by the matter of fact tone of the narrator. Discussing the subject would give major clues to the book, but the twist at the end is very close to unexpected.
I found that I had to listen to the book in segments, but I was unable to bear listening all the way through. The author creates memorable characters.
Say something about yourself!
I got this book on the daily deal, i was thinking it would be bad since it was only $4, boy was I wrong.
This is a roller coaster of emotions, well written extremely well preformed.
Thank goodness for Daily Deals. This is one book I’d probably have never found had it not been featured one day. This book is riveting to say the least. There is really no other word to describe it. There are times when I found myself thinking, “You are not that stupid! Really, you just cannot be that stupid! Are you?” Even with these moments, Defending Jacob is an excellent read and listen. The narrator is awesome. He knows how to bring the listener into the story without over doing it. If you enjoy legal thrillers that will keep tossing things at you that you never see coming, you really need to read this book. There is little I can say without spoiling the story, however, prepare yourself for a great deal of, what the…” and “are you serious…?” moments. I am pretty good at figuring out the endings of books, a quality I do not necessarily enjoy but one that comes from reading a lot of books, but not this one. I was completely blown away by the ending. Don’t misunderstand me. You will have a couple of moments where you just want to skip to the end but don’t do it. You need to catch all of it. Anyway those moments are few and far between. All I can really say is keep track of the Daily Deals and read this book!
I liked the courtroom scenes but the domestic scenes were nothing special at all. Typical parent teenage interactions that are kind of dull. Cutting out about a third would have improved the pace. If you want to read (or listen) to a similar book that is more to my liking, check out Presumed Innocent.

First Thought When Finished: I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING AT ALL! Sure I saw part of it but holy whiplash at the end.
Speed Date Review
First Date: I admit at first I wasn't pulled into this story. It took awhile to grab me. The pacing was a little slow but then BAM!
Second Date: I was almost sure I knew who had committed the crime but I wasn't sure how it was going to play out. There was a few times that I questioned my thoughts on who did it. I love when thrillers do that to me!
Third Date: I was right about who did it but wow did not see the end coming at all. I mean there was a twist and there was a TWIST! It was fantastically chilling. I seriously had to listen to it twice just so that I could make sure I heard it right! I did and WOW!
Narrated by Grover Gardner /Running Time 12 hrs and 25 mins
Grover Gardner was a really great choice for this audiobook. He had just enough gruff in his voice to pull off the tone and I think it enhanced the story. His pacing was great and his female voices weren't to bad. Overall, I am glad I chose to listen to this one on audio!
Relationship Status: We had a great run! I will be checking out William Landay in the future.
The various twists in the story.
The wear and tear trials may impact on on a family and on each individual. Changes you forever. The love Andy has for his son-touching!
Hope. To see what her perspective was on the family.
