I am a big Lorelei King fan, so I think that part of why I keep listening to this series is because of her. Some of the writing is good. I like the interaction with Swopes and with the Yost/Dean family. The story is one that I am intrigued by, I like the whole Grim Reaper who hasn't fully tapped into her gift storyline. Halfway through this book I was swearing that I wouldn't get the next book but the end saved it for me. Charlie is too schizo for me to be a fan. She goes from being a woman who can't make a good decision when her love life is involved to a woman who interacts with her assistant/friend like a 13 year old girl, (I hate listening to a grown woman act and speak like a teenager), to an actual grown up. I'm on the fence about the series.
Charley is such a likeable character and her interaction with her friends makes this series a fun read. Darynda Jones tells a wonderful story!! This is like a supernatural Stephanie Plum! Can't wait to read more about Charley and her new Guardian - should be fun! As audiobook lovers know, a narrator can make or break an audiobook - Lorelei King is one of the best - and she does a FANTASTIC job with this series, as always. Can't wait for more Charley Davidson!
I love this new author (for me that is)! The only bad thing I can say is I have to wait a year to listen to the next book! Charlie is funny and sarcastic, she just makes you laugh out loud. Reminds me a lot of Janet Evanovich books. If you like those and the Charlaine Harris books with Sookie Stackhouse, you'll love this. Give it a try!!
I like Science Fiction, Post Apocalypse, mysteries, and good romance. If you can mix it all in together, I am one happy camper.
This is a light fun story with a a very likable character. In fact, I really enjoy all of the characters. They tend to be complicated and endearing. I can't wait for the next one.
I live in Albuquerque, so I absolutely love that it takes place in my home town.
I love her characters voices. She makes them come alive.
We get to really feel more in this book. The aurthor allows us to connect with some of her characters on an emotional level.
This whole series I have been thinking the writing style is similar to Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson series. She also writes about a strong female with a sense of whit in her character.
The most memorable is the scene in which Charlie is in the hospital and finds out that her PI practice has been suspended and Garrett has died. I think I was just as shocked at all that was happening as Charlie was.
I love the writings of Darynda Jones and I was so happy to see this one come out. I am enjoying the series and this one did not let me down.
Jones and King are the perfect combination for a fun, interesting, and attention grabbing read.
I was a bit upset with the ending on this one, but I know there will be others to follow. There were several story lines going on at once here, which I found made it a bit interesting. I think people are complaining mostly because they were not happy with the interaction of Reyes and Charlie. Well Charlie is being told "The War is Coming" and she better lean what she is capable of. Seems it's taking her a while. And Reyes used her as bate, which I can understand got her panties in a bunch, however bottom line was he did save her. I think those who complained about this book, were just expecting more. Ms Jones is creating a series here, and I guess that means at least 5 to 7 books. (or more) It seems lately most authors are writing series, and not just one book. With characters like Sookie Stackhouse, and John Taylor "The Night Side Series" or Harry Dresden "The Dresden files". I think that Darynda Jones is just getting her groove on and by the time we see her next few books they will be even better. I remember starting Jim Butcher's :"Harry Dresden series" the first book was good and they only got better, I was hooked. I believe that the same will show with Ms Jones. She has amazing twists and turns in her story lines and I think there will be many more surprises. The first two books were excellent, and this one was good as well, maybe not to every ones taste but, my feeling are let's see what's in store for the next book.
Hard to give a good performance with weak writing
I picked this book because it was promoted as humorous. The storyline is slow and does not even rate a chuckle. The writing is childish and unimaginative.
An avid audible book listener!
Good, Bad, Gorgeous!
Every moment was pretty fantastic!
Don't be turned off by the series plot, it is really something once you start listening!
Love this series and have been waiting for the third book forever, it seems. This is a series I can listen to over and over as I love the characters. The different scenario of The Grim Reaper is great and very innovative. The narrator is perfect for this series and I also love her in the many other audio books she has narrated. She is a class act.
I did notice, in this book, that there were several things said that sounded repetitive, but overall, I was not disappointed in this third installment.
WHEN IS NUMBER FOUR??
