Molly Harper and Amanda Ronconi have hit it again with Driving Mr. Dead. I loved the story, the characters and the situations the mismatched pair of characters got into. The writing is compelling and witty as usual and the delivery sublime.
In our top 10.
My daughters and I listened to this book together. I and my younger daughter choose Collin, and my older daughter chooses Miranda. Though the story is told from Miranda's pov and you get all the little insights of how her mind works and twists and wobbles, it is Colin's behaviour that gives truth to the story. All he can do is react and react he does. It may appear odd and sometimes even not a very nice reaction but his reactions are honest and remain in character.
When they find themselves without a car and lost. I won't spoil it for anyone. Listen and hear for yourself.
Who knew being dead could be so life affirming?
Give it a listen. The narrator comes over as quite comfortable with the asides and brain farts of the characters that you feel like you're hearing the story over a drink or coffee from a beloved if ditzy girlfriend. She invites you into the story; using the author's words to be sure; but keeps you there by her vocal creations of the characters.
Funny interesting entertaining the narrator made the story come alive,, would listen again. Enjoyed it so much I downloaded other books by Molly Harper. Would never of found this author in a book store. Thanks AUDIBLE love this way of enjoying a story.
Both major characters as they kept me listening.
Her story telling made me feel like I was in the car with them enjoying all the stops along the way including the seller at the farmers house.
I laughed out loud many times whilst listening
Can't wait to hear more of her narrating Mollys books.
A scintillating novel, witty dialogue, funny storyline and compelling characters. This is a first rate chapter in the Nice Girl Universe. Amanda Ronconi is the perfect narrator for Molly Harper's novels. She interprets the nuances and intentions of the author superbly. The narration adds to the pleasure of this novel.
Yes because it's funny and very entertaining
The accident prone main character
When she finally gave her finance what he had coming
Did not read the print version so I cant say, but I liked it quite a bit.
When they had to hitch hick to there final destination with another vamp.
I have listened to tow other performances by Amanda Ronconi and I would have to say that she is consistently good.
it's one that i would listen to multiple times. that makes it in the top bracket.
the sarcasm and banter between the main characters.
the part where the main character talks about the vampires about adam's apple. i'm laughing just thinking about it.
i like to listen to books while i clean. this one is a keeper, i laughed out loud several times. this book made me a fan of molly harper. really light and fun.
This was a pleasant love story with quirky characters. I enjoyed the telling, although I wouldn't recommend this novel if you are looking for something deep. Driving Mr. Dead is, as the title implies, a light hearted romance.
I am loving both Molly Harper and Amanda Ronconi! This is another hit in both writing and reading.
She has a slightly sarcastic quality while not being annoying at all. It's what I imagine my inner voice would sound like if I read out loud instead of in my head.
Totally worth the buy.
Witty, hilarious, addictive
If you like the Jim Butcher Harry Dresden books you will love these. The wit, sarcasm and ease of listening is exceptional...for both authors.
Absolutely, I think I did, and immediately bought the rest of her books, and logged in on the 1st of August after seeing blogs that her new book would be out in August. And then cheered out loud when it was.
I paid attention to other comments about the vampire / werewolf likes / dislikes and after avoiding these books like the plague I tried Driving Mr Dead when it was on sale. Best thing I ever did. It is not about Vampires as such, they just happen to be the characters. It reflects families and life and love and all the idiotic ways we trip up ourselves as we complete this journey
