I really enjoy a good 'Mystery/Thriller' but the narrator can cause me, at times, to not listen to what might have been a really good story.
I am a big fan of Preston and Child. But not this book. Very boring, predictable and way too long for the story they are telling. I will not bother with another "Gideon" story. Save your credit.
I really enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to the next in the series. I know it's not Pendergast, but this character is complex and interesting in his own way. I thinks it's way better than White Fire, so there you go.
This is one of the best thrillers I've listened to.
He sounds fantastic. I thought it was Tom Cruise most of the time, but with better tone. He doesn't make mouth noises like smacking lips and gulping sounds that completely distract me which then force me to change the speed to get past the sounds. I need a narrator who sounds like David Collins. Also he doesn't color the character in the story with regional accents that dominate their voices. I love NY but I can do without the accent in narratives. David has a pure voice and never overdoes the dialog.
One of the worst, most idiotic books I have ever tried to listen to. On chapter 13 and plan to invest no more time on this one. The dialog in this book is almost humorous. Please, please, please Preston & Child...bring back Pendergast and that incredible narrator Rene Auberjonois. Or, at the very least, bring your next book up to that level of writing. Please!
I listen to a bit of everything. Mostly Fantasy and paranormal romance with my wife. Along with mysteries/thrillers, even some sci-fi.
Gideon's Corpse is fast paced and is filled with plenty of twists and turns. It's a good follow-up to Gideon's Sword.I think this story introduces some unique characters that interact well with Gideon and they all grow and evolve throughout the story.
I got a fast-paces story with some twists, expected and unexpected, and that's what I come to expect from this series.
David Collins performed the first book in the series as well and both performances fit well with the characters and the narrative style of the book.
Don't come expecting a Pendergast novel, this is different. The tone, style and characters are much different than the Pendergast series. The writing is solid and while not everything is groundbreaking, it's a fun fast-paced listen.
I loved the hero and will get the next one that comes along. I have loved Preston and Child and look forward to their next book. I definitely would recommend this to anyone who likes mystery and adventure.
Darn good story
Gideon is the main and most interesting character. He is brilliant and gets smarter as the plot unwinds.
I have not heard previous performances but he was very good in this one.
No extreme reactions, Just a fun read.
There seemed to be absolutely no attempt by the writers to create a cohesive story. It just jumps from scene to scene, with characters paired at random (it seems). Perhaps it all comes together brilliantly at the end. I will miss that. I was utterly bored.
This is the second Gideon book that I have listened to. I really enjoy these authors especially the Prendergast series so I tried Gideon. Truthfully I was undecided about Gideon in the first book I was not sure if I really liked him. But in this book Gideon comes alive for me. I felt all his emotions and understood his logic. This is a great story. Enjoy
