Fantasy All Day Every Day!
If you are like me and have listened to A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, and a Storm of Swords and then most likely buy A Feast For Crows you might be in for a initial shock factor. Much of the other reviewers have hit this on the head so I am kind of a broken record but I will say it anyway. I have done some research however and will share it here.
Roy Dotrice read the first three books all around the same time frame. Then 10 years later he did A Dance with Dragons and finally came back and did A Feast For Crows. What happened was during A Feast For Crows he had other engagements and couldn't do the reading. So they hired someone else to do it. People where in love with Roy Dotrice so they complained and complained and he finally came back and did A Feast For Crows. However the voices sound different, the pronunciations are different and the whole feel is different. Now this could be because they didn't care to listen to the old ones 10 years later. Roy Dotrice is now 92 and is old and can't handle it or he found out the correct way to say the names and changed them. One thing is for certain he can't or doesn't hit the range of voices he did in the last three books. You will have trouble in the beginning telling who is who. Eventually though as you get further it, it will grow on you as it did when your first started listening I am guessing. I really like the Feast For Crows but I was shocked at first. Also if you didn't know. A Dance with Dragons and A Feast For Crows where supposed to be one book. So you are not going to see Jon Snow, Tyrion and many other characters in this book. They are in the next book. Also you see Samwell or Breanne in the next book. That is just how George decided to write it. That also might be another slap in the face for you. Honest Opinion: This books still rocks, Roy Dotrice is on fire and I am still enjoying every minute of it. I still recommend this book to anyone!
Samwell Tarly and some others.
Yes, because the story is so great.
I love this novel some peaople complain about feast but, everything has it's place. you just have ro live with the uncertainty of if you will ever know the end since the wait between books is long. It's very stressful. But, these books are crafted so well. The wait between sweetens the satisfaction.
I have listened to the first 3 books from the same reader Roy Dotrice on Audible, but for some reason it was extremely hard to pay attention at certain points since he changed the way he pronounced names. example: instead of "kat-lynn" he uses the name Caitlin. If it's the same reader, why does this change!!?
All of the Song of Ice and Fire stories are outstanding however it seems Roy forgot which voice was who between this and the last. More than likely this is because there were years between his readings yet only hours between my listenings. You get over it after a while but on occasion my brain would dub over the new with the old. Little Finger was the most noticeable. Still going to listen on regardless, it's only a minor annoyance.
