Well, I was glad to hear that Mr. Hill was back on board with this novel, however I'm afraid even his talents couldn't save it. Yes, I still liked the characters and the banter, however the story line was weak and didn't draw me in like the first books did. This one seemed like an afterthought and didn't bring much to a conclusion. In addition, the events in this book seemed unplausable, yes I know it is fiction, but normally Mr. Griffin weaves a lot more detail that is based in fact to the story. This book, especially the quick departure of the ex-president and the lunacy of the new president did not make for a believable story in my eyes, fiction or not.
Hope there is another book, take a little more time Mr. Griffin and weave a better tale that closes out the story lines on all the characters, this one didn't do it for me.
More action and better twists. Less rehash trying to make all readers/listeners get up to speed on past books.
Narrator was good, but not great
The endless flashbacks to prior books
I have been an big fan of this series and character in the past years. What Happened? Nothing but lists of names every five minutes, followed by another list of names? WEB must have been under pressure by the publisher to crank something out. There were two predominant story lines as they were carried through the book, and as they related to the plot. I know there is another book ,but at the end both story threads, DROPPED COLD. What was that? There was this huge build up and "DONE" The end. Am I supposed to be intrigued to get the next book? I've followed these stories for years, I don't need a poorly written cliff hanger to push another read. DISAPPOINTED. Sorry, It will be a long time before I order another.. My loss as well.
Like action, adventures, war stories, militay happenings, historical readings-fiction, & mysteries. Unabridged only! Reader IMPORT!
I have listened to many of Mr. Griffin' books & enjoyed about 95% of them...! However I found this dull & wearisome!
Mostly the conversations that the reader (I think) had trouble with remembering the voices of the characters!
Well any way I will still look forward to W.E.B.'s adventures ... but a bit more causes in my selection
I am an avid eclectic reader
Dick Hill does a great job narrating the book. Since Griffin has been writing with his son the story seems a bit ragged. I hope as they work together the son learns more from his father and can carry the writing forward. There was a lot of repetition of the prior books of the series which interfered with the current story. The story built up with lots of suspense then the ending was a total let down. At first I thought there was an error in the downloading of the book, it seemed as if a whole section of the ending was missing. I would have liked a lot more detail for the ending. Maybe it will be filled in with the next book of the series. I love the series and will keep listening and hope they improve writing together.
This is book 7 - the people and their characters are developed. This story is kind of half baked. Not quite done. Book is ~13hrs long and should have been 25+ to take this to the level it should have been.
None... None of the story line is as complete as it should be. Dick Hill done his usual great job with the telling of the story, it's just not complete.
I've listened to about 400 books in the last 3 years. This whole series of the Presidential Agent is at least in the top two books in a series. Every booki in this series is relevant and the characters have developed so well since the beginning book. I love every one of them.
I listen to too many books to make a comparison against one. Well developed characters and great suspense and action and story lines. I already await the next one.
Dick Hill is one of the best and particularly well suited to this series. Love his portral of all of the main characters but Charlie and Fernando are probably my favorites. The previous book in this series was not read by Dick Hill and it totally killed it for me and many others. Dick Hill
Lots of suspense and there is always some sarcastic humor in this series. Love every minute of it.
I just hate waiting for a year or more for the next one. Griffin is involved in so many series, which are all good, but this series has always been my favorite
This is better than The Outlaws, both in terms of story and narrator. Although you can really hear the influence of Griffin's son Butterworth. He is just not as good a writer. Some of Hill's voices changed but that is to be expected by the 7th book in the series. But, previously unknown character relationships, i.e. the mutual dislike of McNabb and Naylor, are disturbing and not necessary for story development.
All in all worth the listen and I hope that the next in the series, almost certainly written mostly by the son will be more in the style of a younger WEB Griffin. You get the impression Butterworth needs to read his dad's books more carefully in the future before writing a sequel.
I wait for the new WEB Griffin books just to stay up on the series I like. While these are good story lines, they are predictable just like his other series. This story is ok. Just that OK. I do like the characters somewhat.Where is Sergeant Major Jack Davidson now? There is a good adjunct plot deviation with
I am extremely tired of the ongoing fight between Pevsner & Charlie over who is tsar. Can we move on?The SVR/Putin line is getting old. Get the SOF Chain of Command straight. Hire somebody to give you advice. This mistake is extremely aggravating. The editing is getting poor. I still don't get the conflict between Naylor VS McNabb/Charley.
Hill does ok.I really wish he used a different inflection for Vic D'Alesandro.
Yes, don't buy another one until I get through with my aggravation.
Only buy this if you are keeping up with the series.
So glad Dick Hill was back to read this one. Great job. So good a job, in fact, that one really comes to like the characters that are the good guys and dislike the ones that are bad or in this book just plain insane.
