I have been interested in Area 51 and the UFO thing ever since I saw one myself…many years ago. When I saw this book, I purchased it with some trepidation, expecting a way out SciFi. But as the story went along, I found myself more and more intrigued until the book completed! Amazingly, I had listened to the entire book and had NOT become bored or disappointed with it. Warning…if you have any interest in this story line, it will lead to the other books in the series. I'm on book 4 now. Still intrigued!
This is an 8 book series and the incredible thought process that went into this is amazing! Love the blending of history, SyFy, and the military. Prefect. Makes you think...
Narrated by Jeffrey Kafer this is a production more than a normal audio book. This narrator is amazing.
A highly entertaining book with enough twists and turns to keep the most avid reader turning the pages one after the other.
The introduction to the book was enough of a hook for me to immediately fall in love with the story.
The plot is complicated but not overly so. The author obviously spend a lot of time with research and the confidence he wrote the book with is in part due to his knowledge of the subject of ancient gods, runes and superstitions.
In all the plot is really highly entertaining.
The main protagonists has an anti hero to set off their moral backbone and later in the book a second such a character becomes obvious due to his actions. All in all the characters, especially the at one stage bad guy and the current nut job is the characters that undergoes the biggest character development.
The world building is superb. Again due to the authors knowledge of the subject matter, the reader is taken into parts of the world that is known by few and seen by even fewer.
If I could sell it to a prospective buyer with a sentence then it would read --- aliens, conspiracy and technology hunted after by Hitler and the American army alike, both for the same reasons.
The atomic bomb….it might not have been our own technology. To learn more, you need to read this book!
a Tech Exec who loves the stories about what could be and what should have been. Mixed with histories told from an outside perspective.
The over all writing was bit campy. The story is a bit of historyical fiction blended with the trendy consiracy theories of the time. A fun ride even though it seems to be of the growing trend of authors/reporters being the central characters to Life, the Universe, and Everything...yeah, Douglas Adams did that too, though his writing was much better.
I listen for fun, usually on my drive home after work when I need a brain break. This was perfect...lots of 'conspiracy' theories woven together, likeable characters, and a good narrator. Adding the sequel to my ever-expanding wish list!
Very entertaining read. I got this book on sale and it turned out to be great. Just be prepared that this is fiction. They mention facts that are meant to be fictional. When I realized this, I was able to enjoy the book. Also, this book was written in 1997, and they mention an iPhone. Apparently they changed some stuff in the audio version.
The use of some facts and mythology mixed with fiction just makes the whole book feel real and as if it could be happening. That makes it much easier to get pulled in and wonder just how close to truth could this be? One of the best I've listened to so far.
Hardcore scifi fan from a galaxy far far away.
The series as a whole is worth it. The strenuous effort to enter twine every myth of history into a alien conspiracy is good spaghetti. However the individual books can be painful. The 'action' seanes can be pointless, jumpy and painful. I recommend the read -you will just have to put some work into it to enjoy the series.
This book was fun and I enjoyed listening to it. Might listen a second time for kicks.
Listener of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Intrigue (not romance), Historical Fiction and very eclectic in her literary wanderings.
If you're looking for deep conspiracy/alien cover up books stop here.
This novel is very much what I call Brain Candy and it's action packed, low on accuracy and high on TV movie fun.
It's fun, easy to listen and just as easy to walk away from too.
The reader makes it better for certain.
Hey, I had a busy day and I was looking for something to listen while working and this fit the bill.
As other readers noted: the ending is a little to snappy and neat. I felt like the author rushed to resolve things and lost perspective. If there's a sequel, I'll think about picking it up.
