The author continually undermines his arguments by using Christian concepts to support them (Angel of Death, the Gospel of John, Jesus, Christian concept of God). The rave review from Deepak Chopra should have served as a warning. No doubt, this 'best selling author' will be featured at Learning Annex's all around the country, for years to come. To cleanse the palate, pick up 'god is not Great' by Christopher Hitchens.
To paraphrase Singer; each day might be my last - and I could not possibly risk wasting any part of what is left of my life - reading this dribble.
All but the part about finding your inner voice.
Painful to get through...
I think the book may be good, but I can't be sure because I may have missed so much. I bought this audio version to listen to while driving and because of the reader's singsong, high/low voice, much of the book was unintelligible. If you had it loud enough to hear the low parts, the loud parts were painfully loud. I would not recommend this version if you want to use it in the car.
A lot of the content sounded excellent, but the reading just got in the way.
This book has liberated me from my incessant thoughts that troubled my mind. I am more conscious of my thoughts and feelings.
I have listened to this twice and bought 2 hard copies for friends. It introduces concepts in ways that are relevant and comprehensive. Some things I already new are now seen in new ways along with concepts I hadn't thought of before. It's eloquently written and I think this book should be a staple in everyone's home.
No Music No Life
I DO listen to The Untethered Soul … over and over again. I do not know where the author was able to gain his insights, but he is speaks to my very own situation and provides a way forward. What this book guides us through is getting beyond the internal dialogue that goes on inside our head. The voice that never stops and creates a reality that is not real. And this message is from the get go. Just this alone helped me step back, let me make my own reality check and move forward. There is so much more of this type of insight and useful advice to put to immediate practice.
From the very first words about how there is an internal conversation going on in how head. This is not new, but what the turning point for me was pragmatic and gentle guidance on how to recognize that it is just inside the head and not necessarily really out there.
Same as above, but I am sure there will be many more to come.
It literally changed my outlook on life.
I do not know why this book is not more well known. The sub-title is very fitting for its contents - "the journey beyond yourself". Maybe that should be the main title instead. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who never has had the chance to step from themselves, evaluate your thinking and be gently guided onward in a way that suits your own special circumstances.
Narrator and overall content of book. Says the same thing over and over. Just did not like this book, and I am normally very open to different points of view.
No. Just this author. The narrator was ok, but would not search books just to find him.
too many to list
I would consider them equally exceptional. The narrator does a remarkable job and creates engagement with his syntax and brightness.
I found it to be immediately engaging and interesting and was able to begin the application of the principles quickly.
The insights are numerous and are quickly absorbed in my daily thought patterns and application to my life.
I have read this book two times and listened to the audio book three times. My husband loved it so much he bought the cd's for each of our four grown sons and sent it to them. We have found this to truly be a game changer and are figuring out a way to bring this to our office staff for a weekly listening session during a staff meeting.
I had the audible and loved it
all of it
This is my first of Peter Berkot's and loved it
It's unfortunate others have been so critical of the narration as it's quite acceptable if you actually listen. I'm so glad I ignored those reviews and took notice of the ones saying how good the actual content was.
Even if you've read a lot of other material on the self, inner peace etc, I personally feel this book has a valuable message and perspective to add to that. I actually like the narrators style. He brings care and emotion to the content. I have no idea what others were expecting. It's all a matter of perspective and expectation I guess.
Extremely worthwhile download.
The clear insightful message and guidance on looking within and learning how to heal your psyche.
He brings emotion and understanding to this material contrary to others opinions. Come at this with an open mind and focus on the content. If you actually listen, the audio drop off others mentioned is just part of his style and if you tune into the content rather than the delivery you shouldn't have any problems.
First and foremost letting go of everything. All those trivial things in everyday life that block you from just getting on and enjoying it.
Wow. I usually listen to books with gaps of time in between because time to listen isn't always available. This book wouldn't be ignored, it haunted me to keep listening. I never got bored, had many Ah-ha moments, and the authors voice was great to listen to. I ended up downloading this to my phone and listened while getting ready for work, and in the car on the way there. This book demanded that I finish it, and nagged me if I left it too long. Thoroughly enjoyed this book, learned a lot, and it will be one of the few I listen to more than once. Obviously I needed this book and it came at the right time.
