I am relatively new to the audiobook world, and have already heard some books where the story was good, but the narrator made it difficult to get through. Not the case here, at all!
The narrator, David LeDoux, brought passion and excitement to the reading. The novel itself, was very, very good; A legal thriller with more surprises than I could count! The entire last hour shocked me, but in a good way. I definetely recommend this book for anyone who enjoys crime novels.
Definitely in the top 10
The sexual tension and betrayal by Abby. I had trouble liking her from the beginning; probably because she 'used' Alex for her own good. I am also fascinated by his wife's behavior-and how their relationship re-connected.
I did find Alex rather spineless - so spellbound by Abby, but I guess that this what goes on in the corporate world- especially old school law firms like the one he worked for.
I wouldn't have lasted very long-I ended up marrying my boss!
A great read; I LOVED it
Abbey-I hated her, but at the same time I have to admit that she played Alex alone beautifully.
Brilliant book. Best for ages
I love to read books set in interesting places or historical settings. I especially love mysteries and thrillers.
I enjoy legal thrillers very much. This is not on the same level as Michael Connelly, John Grisham or Steve Martini, but it is a very good first start for this author. I do recommend the book and look forward to his next book. What I found interesting was the excellent description of a partner's life in a large NYC law firm and the build up of a large scale financial fraud legal case. I learned a great deal from that part of the book. The case, however, was not a "thriller", but I did look forward to each session listening to the book. You have to get well into the book before there is a death that affects the story. That is when things started to move rapidly with the story. There are some good twists and turns in the end, but if you follow this type of book regularly, you should get a feel for the story before all is revealed. The narration was excellent. Adam Mitzner made the story flow really well and the variety of voices did not distract to the narration. I hope I get to hear more from this narrator.
Addicted to Audible!
I enjoyed listening to this book. While it wasn't particulary original, it's a John Grisham type book, it moved fast and had some interesting twists to the plot. I would definately read more by this author. The narrator was excellent!
Seeing this featured on the audible.com homepage convinced me to look into Mitzner's "A Conflict of Interest." Reviews were favorable. I found the work to be unimaginative, relying on plot points that have been done before, and done much more dynamically. As a reader and listener, I am not opposed to formulaic novels, but I'd like them to be INTERESTING. Even the narrator sounded as though this was nothing to write home about. In summary: not completely terrible, and not that good.
Avid reader and audiobook listener; I love paranormal lit, mysteries, historical fiction, romance, Brit-crime novels and thrillers.
After listening to the first chapter for free I used a credit to purchase this book. I'm not disappointed to have done so. I would have rated the book slightly higher, perhaps four and a half, but not five stars. The narrator did at times get a little on my nerves, but I thought he represented the main character, Alex Miller, quite well. He definitely sounds like a male, 30-something New Yorker, with above-average intelligence. The story, though a little predictable, did manage to hold my interest and I found myself really wanting to listen to find out if what I thought was going to happen, really did happen. The villain was sort of likeable, in a "you're not completely sure if he's guilty" kind of way and Alex Miller is also likeable in spite of his obvious character flaws. I would read/listen to future releases by Adam Mitzner.
Absorbing, excellent, superb
No, but I will find more! Perfect choice!
Yes! Lost sleep over this.
Switched to this one after being halfway through well known legal thriller.Looking forward to more from this writer!
Tell us about yourself!
A Conflict of Interest is read with energy and spontaneity working very successfully with the first person narrative. This is an absorbing and very satisfying book with multiple blending themes and an overall tightly crafted plot, convincing characterisation and interesting moral conflicts and resolutions.
At the end Mitzner draws all the themes together in a measured way with a delightful double entendre ending.
Love books. I'm a bookseller! An avid reader too.
A page turner!
I'd compare his writing to Turow.
This book is a fabulous first by a new author. It was compelling in a legal thriller type way with quite a personal twist. The narrator was excellent and his pace was great too.
