"A Grown-up Kind of Pretty" is a lovely novel. The story is well put together, the writing is great, and so is the reading.
The characters are loveable and their quirks make them memorable. The carefully crafted plot brings it all together into a wonderful story about the ties and bonds that are created between mothers, daughters and grand-daughters.
It isn't a revolutionary novel and it most likely won't change your life but it is most definitely worth the listen!
i enjoyed the 3 characters, each in its own right. the story is very real. can happen anywhere, the circumstances that surround it too. but it is so well written you can't help but get emotionally involved.
the reading is good. J. Jackson has sweet voice, very nice. the thing is her performance, although good, it's not quite excellent. or maybe i'm just a spoiled audible listener.....
Never wanted to stop listening. Great winding path of a story with satisfying depth to each character.

When Lisa tells Big Melissa poisoned her.

At the end when the three main characters come out of the pool together...
Crazy for audiobooks!!
This to me is a book that examples why authors SHOULD NOT narrate their own books. I just couldn't get through it.
This book uses the F Bomb. So unnecessary! It seems like it could be a cute story but I couldn't listen to it because of the language. It makes them sound like trailer trash.
The book was very well written. All of the requirements of a good book were all there. There was lots of humor and suspense. The book was a very fast and exciting read. The writer wrote from several perspectives.
I did not like the reading. Just because the writer can create a wonderful book it does not easily follow that she can also read it for a listening reader. The book was read in a monotone which might have been good for a scientific non fiction book but not a multi-faceted beautiful piece of fiction.
Mosey continually tests herself with a pregnancy test to assure herself that she was not pregnant.
I am writing a review of an audio book. The performance was not in any way professional. Most professional readers have several voices that they use when reading a book. This book was written from the viewpoint of three women. The writer/reader should have created three voices for the three women. There were several other characters that should have a different voice, two or three of them were men. An audio book is not the same as a book in print. Audible has several very good professional readers that have up to ten male and female voices as well as children's voices.
No! It is a wonderful story and although it has action, the real beauty of the book is the thoughts and concerns of the three main characters.
The story might become interesting, but I cannot make it past every sentence dripping in description. It is just too painful to endure.
the story itself seemed interesting
As a mother to 4 children, 2 with developmental disabilities, I was extremely disappointed in the derogatory use of the word
an author should not read their own book....this author had a simpering, whiny voice that was so annoying all throughout the book
narrator was horrible...a waste of money...do not buy this audiobook
Patti...I think the author was grasping at staws to flesh out this story
don't waste your money...It had it's moments in Part II when I thought it would redeem itself but it did not
