I have already begun recommending this book for its engaging story, and for the beautiful narration of it.
I loved the relationships between all of the women, and was kept interested in where the story was going the whole time. I especially love Jackson's ability to put words together in just the right way, making me laugh out loud, or get choked up.
Most times an author just doesn't have the whole package of being able to tell the story they've so artfully written, but this is where Joshilyn Jackson stands out! She is a fabulous narrator, and so beautifully conveyed each character's individuality in her subtle voice changes. I'm already looking for another of her books to listen to!
A joy to listen too! The story was intriguing and funny with unexpected twists and turns. I am only disappointed that it is over. I will definitely be looking at other titles from this author.
I LOVE to listen to audiobooks - the Audible ap is by far the best thing that's ever happend to my iPhone.
I really enjoyed this book - the author reads her own work and does a darn good job! The story flows well - I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a pleasant story.
Yes! This novel will keep your attention all the way through.
I LOVE Jackson's voice in reading the story. There was not much variation when her voice as the characters changed. For this reason it was hard at first to follow who was who & what was what. I did have to rewind many times to get who was telling the story. After a bit this did not bother me - it was just different from any other that I had listened to. Overall an AWESOME book.
Southern, entertaining, capturing
The end - where the three generations exited the water - strength in the family!!!
"A Grown-up Kind of Pretty" is a lovely novel. The story is well put together, the writing is great, and so is the reading.
The characters are loveable and their quirks make them memorable. The carefully crafted plot brings it all together into a wonderful story about the ties and bonds that are created between mothers, daughters and grand-daughters.
It isn't a revolutionary novel and it most likely won't change your life but it is most definitely worth the listen!
i enjoyed the 3 characters, each in its own right. the story is very real. can happen anywhere, the circumstances that surround it too. but it is so well written you can't help but get emotionally involved.
the reading is good. J. Jackson has sweet voice, very nice. the thing is her performance, although good, it's not quite excellent. or maybe i'm just a spoiled audible listener.....
Never wanted to stop listening. Great winding path of a story with satisfying depth to each character.
Licensed Massage Therapist / Aesthetician
This is my first audiobook and I am definitely hooked!
When Lisa tells Big Melissa poisoned her.
She is very lively! loved her!
At the end when the three main characters come out of the pool together...
If you have ever read the "Ya Ya Sisterhood" novels, you are familiar with the crazy Southern women themes. I don't think this is as good, and it took me awhile to like the narration. That said, I (eventually) liked the story.
