Reading history as a story about an individual who selflessly dedicated his life to make us a free nation was just the medicine I needed after the indigestion left from last presidential election. This kind of character is too rare these days and the more the electorate reads about true patriots the more we will not settle for politicians who pretend to be patriots. Character is everything.
George Washington was chosen and protected because he chose to stay true to correct principles. What a contrast with today's politicians.
Ron's reading was superb.
I was inspired.
Please find more inspiring characters in American history and right about them. We need to see what made this country great so we can see the threats to our freedom and stability.
I recommend this book to both history buffs and non history buffs. Wish my history teachers had taught like this
Yes. I have listened to it twice already and will listen to it again. Performance is excellent and the content is outstanding. Better than a history book.
Haven't read or listened to anything that compares. Glenn's comments throughout the book about "Being George Washington" are inspiring.
I was in awe of the story of George Washington, the man. The dramatization of the accounts in the book made the story enjoyable without detracting from the facts. Whenever there are inconsistencies in the accounts or if historians are not sure of how certain things happened, it is pointed out so as not to be presented as the complete truth.
This book was written in a fashion where the reader/listener can live the story and relate to such a great founding father. He was fallible and above reproach at the same time. I listened to this book right after a trip to Philadelphia and the surrounding area. Having just visited Valley Forge, Christ Church in Philadelphia and Constitution Hall and walking the grounds, I listened to the story of the struggles and triumphs that happened there. Sure wish I had listened before the trip.
I didn't read the printed version.
I liked George Washington (obviously) but I also like Thomas Jefferson.
I enjoyed hearing about some of the battle scenes he went through with his troops.
I would recommend this book to anyone wanting more details then the basic info on all of the founding fathers.
I used this on my trip on my motorcycle to Denver. The story flew by. So much background and details to draw you in. Great historical references as well. I wish High School History was this engaging, I wouldn't have done so poorly. Thank you Glenn for a great book.
Killing Lincoln - President 1 and President 16 in great back story and detail.
I learned things in this book that I never knew prior to listening to this book. In one word . . . Character. This book brings out the Character of George Washington, and what disciplines he exercised to bring out that character. It's all about being the right person, at the right place, at the right time. Without being the right person, you'll miss out when the right place and the right time arrives.
Inspirational, motivating, great
It made me want to be a better man, a better American, and a more active in my community.
It's more than just a story or biography, it's a motivational book. Inspiring us to be the best we can be.
I expected this to read like a political book, or a history book, but was drawn in to Being George Washington as surely as if I was hearing a Historical Fiction Novel. Learning so much about the character and integrity of Washington, and the need for us to emulate those characteristics was uplifting!
Listen as I drive, it works for me
You ask to many stupid questions for a review
I love Ron Mc Larty's reading! I could listen to him anytime, just wonderful!
I Couldn't have been any better
I truly enjoyed this book and I will be listening to it again.Glenn is one of my favorite writers. I love his insights and thoughts that he works into the book with regard to why wewould want to apply this in our lives.I love that Glenn gets his information on George Washington from original sources and really gets into the character of who he was. Great Book!
