If I sat down and read this book, it would be a waste of time. Listening to it while doing another activity, it is engaging. I think it would be a better book if it were edited. And like many books today, they cannot make the bad people bad enough. The mantra of evil is tiresome. The outcome is fairly obvious from the beginning. Some good character developments. Some ridiculous situations. Overall OK book. Keeps one's attention while driving or gardening. Another book that feels written in the hope of being picked up by a studio and turned into an action movie.
I enjoyed the main character. A feisty street woman that finds a mission and need in her life.
I liked the characters developed as the "good people". The bad people are the same as so many evil, bad characters. Never a bit evil. Just downright horrible.
An excellent writer, wonderful reader.
I love this story. I read it years ago when it was new, and was excited to find it on Audible! Thank you.
This book was just too depressing and slow developing. I don't mind developing the plot, but I feel like it was just wasting my life.
The story was excellent. I kept wanting to hear what happened next.
I think I liked Sister the most. I wanted to know more of the glass ring & I like her "no crap even though I'm just a small woman" attitude. She is such a survivor.
He takes the time & effort to give each character a different voice. Some people's reading is so flat, emotionless and dull! The story can be really good but it takes away from it so much. He did a great job.
Interesting story and kept my attention.
Tom Stechschulte has the ability to quickly take on the voice of the different characters bringing the story to life. He made me feel as if I was there.
So many times in an audio book I feel like I get lost either in the story or the characters. Not with Swan Song this is a very long listen but I had no trouble staying in the story. I like audio books that I can enjoy while doing other tasks, if I have to sit and concentrate on the story I might as well as just read it. This was an excellent AUDIO BOOK. Well done by both the author and narrator!
Listen to books EVERY DAY driving in Atlanta traffic! I love exciting non-fiction, mystery, series and lengthy books. Every once in a while I will listen to rock start autobiographies to break up the routine.
Great characters. Loved them more at each development of the story. It was believable and honest. I especially liked the way the book introduced the characters and showed their journey so completely.
Loved when the Colonel was in trouble and the little guy saves him. Great turn to the "evil side"!
Just the scenes of all the different characters and what they go through during the initial nuclear holocost was great. Every one had different circumstances and you find yourself either cheering them on or hoping something very bad happens to stop them. Depending on the character.
Oh, Swan - most definately. I have some plants that need tending. LOL
I didn't know what the purpose of these characters were for. After 8 hours into the book I still didn't know what they were heading towards except to survive, which doesn't make for an exciting book. I gave up when it got to the part about the hooker. I don't like sex in books.
I didn't have a strong connection to any of them.
This book was definitely not for me. I tried to like it, but just couldn’t get into it. I think this is one of those books that readers either love or hate, and for me it was the latter. Hate that I wasted my credit for this one!
I'm not a fan of Robert McCammon's other works but this was actually one of the best audio books I've heard in a long time. The author does a great job of setting each scene and all of the characters are well developed and interesting. There is a lot of symbolism in this story and it would be equally as entertaining for a 15 year old as it would be for a 45 year old. Totally worth the credit, I would love to see more audio books by this voice actor.
