I've just discovered the Maiden Lane series and have greatly enjoyed each one. I've listened to them out of order, but I enjoyed listening to them again in order. The book descriptions do not always have the book series number, that has been very frustrating to a new listener.
The narrative is mostly true to characters, BUT the lisp in Phone's voice, the dreadful deep voice of Artemis were awful. Not at all in the voice of the characters in the other books. She was very diverse with the multiple other characters, much enjoyed.
Loved the story. I really liked how Elizabeth Hoyt created this story from a previous one and how she weaves another tale in with it. Very clever and very entertaining. This is the second book I've listened to and I'm hooked. I'm going for number three!
Read from December 30, 2012 to January 11, 2013
Story: 3.5 stars
Narrator: 4.5 stars
Much, much better than #2 in the series, not quite as good as #1. Hoyt made a "bad" character into a good hero, so points for that. Overall, a good story. My main issue is technical---the author's repetitious use of "Dear God/Lord" and the anatomical name for the hero's, uh, "member." Hearing the word p e n i s in the almost-puritanical heroine's POV, over and over, was jarring.
This a five star story all around! Awesome story awesome characters awesome narrator! The only story that I listen to again and again and again!!
I love Epic Fantasy....have become a Historical Romance fan because I am a sucker for a good Happily Ever After. Good characters are a must
So far at the top!!! All of Elizabeth Hoyt's books are very high on my best books of all time and this one is super high on that list!
Great! Ashford does a wonderful job. If I had one complaint it is that she basically switched Silence's and Temperance's voices in this book, but that isn['t a very large part of the book and I am just being nit-pickey!
The whole thing, BUT when Mary was under the bed with Lad...I burst into tears!!! (but can't give anything away here!) But so many moments moved me!
This is so much more than a romance novel! This is a real dramatic story with romance at the center. Twists and turns .... never wanting to hit pause...I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!
No. But that just because I don't read books more than once.
That Charming Mikey was a Pirate and not perfect.
She did a fantastic job.
I basically did. Minus the time I had to go to work on Monday. I started it on Sunday finished it on Monday night.
This whole series has been wonderful.
