I would definately recommend this book. It has kept me interested from the start. I walk with my audio books and find I am walking further and further just to keep listending.
The Narrator's voice reminds me of Nicolas Cage's voice, smooth and soothing. He brings words to life and I think I may have put a hard copy of this book down sooner if I was just reading it.
Use Craig Wasson for other narrations! He was excellent and brought Mr King's story to life. He made me feel like I was watching a movie.
It was a long listen for what turned out to be way more of a love story than anything else, and I just didn't want that! So it might be just my reaction, but in the end I listened to the whole lot to then think I really need not have bothered. However, if you are interested in an alternative history fiction with a strong, long, love story then this may be for you.
This book kept me enthralled the whole
way through. Great story, great characters and great performance. If you are interested in history and fascinated by the concept of time travel you'll enjoy this.
A great time-travel story with a solid premise that lays the groundwork for a gripping narrative. The characters are well sketched and their relationships have depth, dimensions, and complexity. Jake Epping is a very relatable protagonist and the narrator of the audio book does a stellar job with the accents and colloquialisms, suggesting the dread, fear, and excitement of its characters.
Its pace slumps to a crawl sometimes, especially in the middle, dividing it almost into two distinct narrative halves, and the writing gets overly expository and descriptive on occasion; however, the characters, premise, and the great voice work of the narrator are solid enough overall to keep you listening till the end.
A great story let down by the reader's inconsistent tone of voice. I can understand if the tone changes with twists in the story, but here and there, I came across sudden changes in the reader's voice. Probably caused in post production
Craig Wasson is perfect for the job, an extremely talented narrator. I wouldn't have Stephen King change a single page. His attention to detail was fantastic. Recommended 100%
I like this book. So much so I bought it twice (after losing an iTunes audiobook copy). It's not King's best work, but only because he has written so many other fantastic books (Duma Key, Cell, The Stand - too many to list); it's way better than the best of most authors, even very good ones. Being super-critical it slows slightly in the middle, but it picks up again. The performance is excellent, the characters are developed beautifully and it's an involving and well thought out story. Epic but so worth it.
it took me a while to get through this marvellous tale as I could only listen in short bursts but despite the stop start nature of my usage, i found each time i picked it up i was able to "fall" back into it with ease. I love this story. I so enjoyed the crazy, wonderful idea; it's one I'm sure MANY have entertained in their private thoughts "What if he missed and the President survived...? ; What if...?" over the years. Everything Stephen King does has value but it's his quirky imagination and his ability to find an idea that somehow resounds, connects with humans in a very real way and the way he puts that existential horror surrealist slant on it that I just love! He writes the books I would love to say I'd written myself. Thanks boss, love your work!
