I'm amazed at the rave reviews. Alex Benedict may be interesting, but this book certainly isn't. Perhaps his other escapades are more interesting. My mind kept drifting off, then i'd go back to see what i'd missed, which wasn't anything much. Then it finally dropped off without an ending. I wondered if a chapter had got lost, but no, maybe just my concentration.
I kept waiting for the story to come to life. I was never drawn to the characters or story... and when did Chase get so whiny!
Go back to his original story telling!
If something actually happened in the book.
I don't think the reader was suited to the genre.
Don't listen to this if you actually want a sci-fi adventure. There is very little sci-fi in it and Nothing seems to happen and I don't think we can finish it.
I can't imagine why this book was written. I had to put it down after the 3rd chapter. It was awful. Don't waste your time. Not worth it even at $5.95.
The Story was well written, interesting and kept you guessing.
Jack was my favorite character. I enjoyed how he out-thought his opponents and I was sympathetic to his viewpoints.
Jennifer Van Dyck is back and sounding greater than ever! Really loved this book! If you struggle in the start please keep in there, as the book only gets better and better! :D
The narrator covers the story like a shrill female Captain Kirk and characters are protrayed as angry frequently when the story doesn't call for that emotion. So bad I could not continue regardless of some interest in the story itself
I would try with a different narrator
You couldn't pay ME
Geological engineer and unabashed science fiction nut.
The story is compelling enough - starships, scientists, mysterious disappearances and holes in space time. McDevitt seems to be aiming for detailed character development, but instead the story falls a bit flat, with lots of exposition and irrelevant description.
Something about the narrator's voice was just a smidge off for my liking - the way she reads dialogue is a bit forced and lacking in believable emotion. It wasn't bad enough to turn me off the story, but it didn't draw me in the way other performances have. I suspect a slightly different narrative performance might have hooked me better.
All that said, it kept me intrigued and amused for the entirety of the performance. I was glad to listen, if only to pass the time.
