This was a good listen, a good romance. This is only my second Nora Roberts, and it appears her stories always seem to end happily, so the story was somewhat predictable. But that doesn't matter if you like Nora Roberts stories, which I do.
I had a little trouble with the narrator at first. He started out so slow! At first, I wasn't sure I'd be able to get through the entire book; but he got better. I found myself unable to stop listening! There were quite a few female characters and he wasn't the best with creating a separate voice for each. He was better at creating different voices for the men.
Luckily, the text included enough information so that it was easy to follow who was saying what.
Overall, this was a really good listen!
Although a bit predictable, a very entertaining read-- and I shed real tears, too. MacLeod Andrews did a fantastic job with the narration; one of the best I've heard in a while.
Loved the Book, read it frist them got the audio. This Guy just cant do women and Kids. If they wanted him for the books they should think about someone else doing the other parts
Will get the next book don't know yet weather the audio is worth it.
Say something about yourself!
I appreciated this story and look forward to the others in the series. I kept coming back to this book..put off buying due to the reviews about the narration. I found his narration style and delivery thoroughly pleasant. It was relaxing. I found he did as good a job as a man can when narrating women's voices. I thought the children's voices were fine. He did a very professional job. I love NR's stories. They seem to be my most favorites. Thanks for this lovely book. I absolutely loved the cover!
I'm a professional pet sitter/book lover, who spends lots of time driving and walking dogs. Thus, I get to listen to lots of audiobooks.
I don't think so. I really did enjoy his narrating. He had many distinct voices to bring life to the characters, and he was so honest in his performance. But I must say I did bust of laughing to tears on a couple parts when he spoke for a female character or one of the little boys. It was just sooo cute or utterly ridiculous the way he said it in a certain voice. Perhaps because he says it with such honesty. This jolt out of the story can be irritating in some books, but he really is very good. I think it was more charming then anything else.
I liked the picturesque ending. And I loved Claire's sons. I think they where probably the best part of the story besides the narrator.
This is a very slow moving slice of life story in small town USA. There's some romance and everyday life going on, but overall I enjoyed it and will be listening the the next two books. Seeing how this is my first Nora Roberts book (I know weird, right?) I will probably listen to more of her.
Romance, Mystery, Thriller
The most memorable moment for me (without spoiling anything) was the point in the book that gave me goosebumps! Close to the end, the guest that was "staying at the end" warns of some impending danger. The sequence of events was perfect. Sorry I don't want to include a spoiler!
I'm not sure why so many people disliked his narration. I enjoyed it, his character change was very smooth. Overall, I thought it was a good performance.
Overall, I really enjoyed the book. It was sweet, a little steamy, a bit of a tear jerk-er but with just enough mystery tied in to break you away from the traditional romance novel. I'm very excited to finish the trilogy and I would absolutely suggest this to friends. I live fairly close to Boonsboro so it was nice to place a connection with places and towns she brings up throughout the story.
Next Always ranks among the top of my list.
The remainder of the trilogy creates the same feel-good mood.
I listened to the entire trilogy and since they are in succession, I see it as a continuum. Therefore, it's hard to compare, it was just one big book.
When the plot thickened, I did just listen to chunks at once.
I think Andrews, the narrator, did a wonderful job differentiating among the characters. After listening to the first of the series, I purchased the remainder of the trilogy.
Bland but pleasant
As an undemanding read, sure.
This is a modern romance with a hint of the supernatural rolled in. A bit predictable, it is not one of Nora Roberts' best books, in my opinion, but a very good performance by Mr. Andrews made it an enjoyable listen
