No, because with human reading there is always going to be some measure of differing in pronunciation and emotion. This reader did a very good job in my opinion. But she does occasionally pronounce things in a strange way, and seems to put the wrong emotional emphasis on some things. Over all though she does a good job. I don't feel that it is fair to judge her harshly based on reading differently than I do.
I like that the authors mixed up the reactions of the main characters, and no longer is Zoey miss goodie two shoes, whining and constantly crying.. they left the story off on a line of making the reader feel they have to read the next book whether or not they even liked the story.
My favorite part about Caitlin Davies' performance is her portrayal of Neferet... I feel like she is spot on with her voice and inflection!
I did tear up a bit when Nicole and Stevie Ray had their talk.
To the people that are complaining about her portrayal of Kramesha, she read it exactly as it is written in the books. If you are going to complain about her making Kramesha sound too "ghetto" perhaps you should read the actual books before you throw a fit. Caitlin read her EXACTLY as she is written...EXACTLY.
I loved this series in the beginning, and then after Neferet was solidly on the side of Darkness, the series dragged on for about 3 books. All of that crushing boredom finally becomes worth it in the last 3 or 4 hours of Destined. I feel like the plot FINALLY feel like the plot got off it's lazy ass and started going again. I was going to quit, but now I feel invested again and will continue on with the series.
Yes, the series is great, and I like listening a second time and picking up on things I may have missed the first time.
Any of the other books in the series
I have read reviews on this series, and some seem to think its too drawn out.. I find it to be a great series. I'm glad they keep pumping out books so there is more for me to listen to. Kinda wish they would write a little faster.. :) I like the Performance of these books a lot.. They are witty, and charming. I know its a teen book, but this 33 year old woman sure likes the snarky teen wit.. As they would say in the book, this series is Awesome covered in Awesome sauce!!! :) P.S. EVEN THOUGH HE WOULD NEVER ADMIT IT, MY HUSBAND EVEN LIKES THIS SERIES!!!!!
Maybe. If they were as good as the first three in this series started. I guess the Casts should have quit while they were ahead.
The next Parasol Protectorate book due out later this month. I can't wait!
Sure I has no problem with her narration.
Definite disappointment. I continue out of hope that the books might improve. I don't know if I will keep on though.
Would listen to Destined again, was a great story
I have been reading the series since they came out, Audiobooks made this easier keep up with the story since I dont have time to read. Will continue the series on audiobooks
Zoey is my favorite character.
Cant listen to in one sitting, take to work and put in the earphones. Maybe get one or two hours at a time.
Nerdgirl who loves to read and listen during a nasty 2 hour daily commute. Mostly listen to intelligent stories to escape road rage - love s
I would not listen to Destined again. The language was awful - I get that it is supposed to be teens and they don't have the most sophisticated language but come on. Kramisha is the absolute worst - the narrator made her sound like an uneducated pre-Civil War slave. Just knock it off already. I cringed every time she spoke. I think the writers were shooting for a person with hip hop vibe but she just sounded like an idiot. Instead of sounding fresh and relevant to today's pop culture - she sounded stupid and uneducated. Another one that annoyed me by sounding vulgar and uneducated was Aphrodite. Her dark wit in prior books was funny but grated on me throughout this book. Her use of
I keep coming back for the characters and because I want to know how things turn out. I like the story but agree with many reviewers who want some closure on old storylines and fresh content instead of the same old recycled crap.
The performance could have been better with a different narrator. Caitlin Davies is awful in this series. The original narrator was the best out of all of them. At the very least the director should have all narrators pronounce the names the same way. Pick one pronunciation and STICK with it.
No way I could listen to this straight through. I had to keep taking breaks because the narrator was bugging me so much.
Sometimes cliff hangers are a real pain & sometimes they are used appropriately. After reading Destined, you'll see that the latter is true for this book. Even though the 1st books in this series were the best, I like the way the story is forming & I can *gasp* see a possible end in sight! Then hopefully all of my cliff hanger questions will be answered. The narrator to these books is not my favorite, mainly because of how long it takes certain characters to complete a sentence but other than that it was a good book. I would say its probably worthy to take up space on the "2nd shelf" of your wishlist.
Yes. Love Stevie Rae's voice!
There were many. And I am not the biggest fan of this series, but this book in particular really kept me interested. When Rafeen's brothers came to talk with him and one was killed was shocking, Dragon's extreme sadness and then his death and reuinting with his mate, Kalona's change of heart.
I have not.
No, but I did like this book better than the 3-4 previous in the same story. This one did not drag along - it stayed interesting and I really appreciated the less "twin" thing. That drove me nuts. I have stuck with the series because I like paranormal romance and I really like the stories aimed at young adults because they are less sexual and violent. I did not read the last book, but was still able to pick up the storyline from the one before.
