Very few facts about Bernie & his scam: check. Self-obsessed artsy gadabout: check. Wicked ex-wife: check. Disfunctional wimpy husband: check. Most adorable children ever: check.
In this indulgent "memoir" Stephanie Whoever discovers "Mr. Right" complete with fishing gear just as she's about to pass the big 3-0. When her candycane world comes shattering down, blame Bernie & Ruth, but throw enough morsels to say you "tried" to understand. Try to draw sympathy by telling every agonizing moment you and your husband spent together---especially with the "wicked ex-wife witch & kids" interfering at every opportunity. Sorry, Steph, but plenty of people don't have $100 to spend, let alone have to ask permission. Well, I guess we'll see her & Oprah together next. Hey, maybe she'll score a car.
No one, but Stephanie could have read this book. It was a true insight to what we don't see on the news reports and gossip columns. It was well written and well read. Thank you STEPHANIE for sharing your story.
This is a very tragic story about what greed & dishonesty can do to your innocent family, friends, and trusting clients. Bernard Madoff is a horrible person. His poor son Mark. I feel so sorry for his wife Stephanie & her children. I never thought that his sons were innocent until I read this. The pain that man caused without remorse (still) is unfathomable! My heart goes out to Mark Madoff & his family. Tragic.
It was all about her.... And her life was boring!!!
Couldn't have because the material was all about her life, which is not interesting
Needed to be a lot more about Bernie and Ruth and what they were actually like and how they behaved with family and friends. Instead it was about Stephanie trying desperately to make the reader believe her husband had nothing to do with the embezzlement scheme of Bernie's.
"A story from the heart that shows there are two sides to every story, and both side should be heard."
An interesting story and look into the Madoff scandal from a new perspective. It was nice to hear the "other side" of the story that wasn't really covered by the media at large.
Stephanie's story is in turns funny, sweet, and heart breaking. Her strength throughout the book is obvious and admirable. Hearing Stephanie's words, in her own voice, brought home what she felt even more than seeing them on the page.
Just the fact that it was very interesting. She gave a lot of insight as to what the family was all about and how much his children were hurt by his actions. I really felt bad for her husband and how her and her children were treated by his mother.
Stephanie and her husband.
How greed destroys!
I appreciated Stephanie's ability to be real and to not hold back details, nor emotion, when sharing her story. I'm grateful she narrated it, because I feel it made it more authentic and interesting. I was always eager to listen to more and was never bored.
This most powerful moment in the book was when she revealed the details of her trip to Disney World with her daughter, on the day of her husband's death.
A love story turned into a tragic death.
This has been one of my favorite audible books, because it is REAL life, which is something I appreciate in a book and an author. Thank you Stephanie for your courage in sharing your story.
I would listen again as the story Stephanie tells is very fascinating. Unfortunately, her children will pay the price for their father's business choices and his suicide.
The description of Mark Madoff's suicide was chilling.
She seems very honest and her emotions really come through in her story telling.
I wish Stephanie Madoff well as she raises her children on her own and tries to put this awful tragedy in her past.
Audio all the way
Stephanie ... her strength
Her emotion in her voice. You could feel her strength as well.
What happen to the children in this family is a travesty let alone what Madoff did to the country. Stephanie did good writing & reading this.
There is nothing better than to hear the author read her own story.
Living with greed and its effect on mental health.
