"Tough...Truth...Entertaining"
I had put of reading this book due to the reviews about the uncompromising religious rhetoric . I wasn't sure I could stomach the impending preachiness. However, here's the best thing about Joel's straight edge: you know exactly where he stands. If you know where you stand, then, you can open your mind and receive the information.
In the end, I learned a lot, adopted sound strength on our common ground and appreciated another viewpoint.
P.S. As a new, small agricultural business owner, I had been butting my head against all these bizarre government regulations...I thought I was nuts and alone...but, I'm not! It's real and now I have knowledge to pursue change.
"Great overall message, but way too long"
I struggled to finish this book. it tended to drag on and on, example after example. The narrator (author) was good but there were entire lengths of time that passed where I have never been so bored in my life. I learned a lot, and it inspired me to buy more local foods, avoid processed foods and even try canning some foods myself. However there were far more random farming techniques and info that probably took away from the message instead of adding to it. I don't regret listening to it, but I'm kind of glad it's over.
"VERY thought provoking...inspiring! A must read!!"
Yes! He has SO many good points, too many to count. I agree wholeheartedly that the way Americans live today makes no sense and is definitely NOT normal!
I like when he tells real life stories about the hassles he has encountered in our backwards society. It's hard to believe how distorted and crazy our thinking has become in this country!
I love the suggestions he makes in this book. Although he acknowledges that not everyone can have and maintain a farm such as his - there are little things we all can do that ADD UP! It makes so much sense, too much sense in fact. Of course our government can't have us doing anything that makes sense though!
Joel Salatin should be president and cut the size of government by 90%- I would certainly vote for him!
"Loved it"
Wonderful book! It will change how you think about buying anything from the Grocery.
I'm starting to buy local foods from local farmers .
"WOW!! A MUST READ/LISTEN!!!"
This audio book was fantastic!! I've always considered myself to be an educated consumer but Wow folks, I never knew just how food ignorant I really was. This book has launched me into a new arena of knowledge and I am thankful for it!! This is a MUST read/listen book for all- no exceptions!!!
"Excellent!"
Love the information. Salatin gets right to the heart-of-the matter. The same industries that tell us that high fructose corn syrup and corn feed beef are safe spent the years 1945 - 1975 convincing us that infant formula was healthier than breast milk; all because these huge companies could sell formula and they make nothing when women use breast milk. .
"This is a great listen!"
After owning a couple of Joel's other books, I was very happy to see him finally offering a reading of his new work. You can hear the passion in his voice and feel the deep belief in the messages he is relaying about our food, government and state of family life in America. He is an excellent speaker and his narration is superb.
I found the book's message very moving and at the end when Joel's voice was actually breaking with emotion talking about his farm and family, I also had tears in my eyes. As one who feels the same love for his farm and lifestyle it really struck a chord. The message is powerful and the logic is as sane as it gets.
I highly recommend this book. In fact, I can't recommend it enough. Download it and I guarantee you will not be disappointed. It might just change your perspective on life. It reaffirmed mine.
"Thanks government... we ain't normal anymore"
Joel Salatin ranges on a variety of subjects concerning how America has deviated from its roots and common sense. The more I listened to this book the more I enjoyed it. Even many of the subjects that I was aware of were explained in a very clear manner and I saw them in a different light. Most of these problems have either been caused by or greatly aggravated by a government gone out of control. I believe we need another revolution if America is to continue as the land of the free.
"Folks, this is normal!"
Sounds like Jeff Foxworthy, but no joking here. This book will make you excited for spring to get the garden going and will encourage you to start living the way our grandparents did. I haven't fought the environmental fight in a long time, but Joel is encouraging me to get back on it, but with a different approach; one through historical common sense, like self-provision. A truly great book!
"I'm a vegetarian and I approve of this message"
Thank goodness for Joel Salatins new work. It is yet another eye opener in the new world order of food. Joel offers many great ideas to help us get our food system back to a place of sanity.
