"Loved the story and performance, editing was not so good."
You can clearly hear a hiccup in the audio where they had spliced two tracks together. It's a bit annoying and sounds like you miss part of the story but I don't think you do.
"Addictive and Compelling - You have been Warned!"
Scarey - Gripping - Amazing
Starship Trooper - Heinlein. But the enemy is tougher, unrelenting and more merciless.
Seamless change of character voices and great dramatic reading ... puts you into the scene
In this Swarm Space You Can Hear Screams and More Screams!
Characters, plot and scenes are very complex, realistic and gripping. Battle scenes ring true and you feel you are in the midst of the storm.
"Mediocre story"
honestly, interesting story concept but the characters are all utterly unrealistic and you can't really get behind any of them. the main characters are completely unbelievable.
"great start"
fun book I'm off to the next book Extinction Star Force series #2 AND AWAY WE GO...
"Mark Boyett does fantastic job with this story"
This is Young Adult material. It is not the adult story line that I was looking for and seems to be aimed at 14 year old's level of imagination.
Only for mindless intertainment
"Solid Sci Fi series!"
Fast paced.. Good plot and good character development. the author is very imaginative and humorous. We will be drawn into the plot effortlessly.
Kyle Riggs. He is creative, clever, and out of the box problem solver with a enough dose of craziness.
He is a good narrator. One of my favorite. I found that his narration is clear and easy to understand. The dialogue is spoken lively and every character is spoken with distinct accent and tone.
Yes... of course!
If you're into fun and enjoyable science fiction series, then this book is for you. The story is full of imagination and overall not too serious.
"Great series"
Love this story very exciting and fast moving. can't wait for the next book in this series.
"Narration"
Mark boyette is terrific at making the characters come alive! I can't imagine anyone else narrating this series.
"This book is a primer for better things to come"
I'm writing this after having listened to the entire series, and I'm going to be honest. I accidentally started with book 3 or so, then came back and listened to the first one. If I had listened to book one before the rest I may not have continued and would have missed out on some of the best listening I've had on Audible.
So let me explain. First off I'd like to say that anyone who loved the "evil dead" series of movies is going to have a great time with these books. They are action packed, campy, sometimes funny and full of great one liners. In this first book it's hard to get past some of the "no one would act that way in that situation" moments, but later in the series it just sort of becomes part of charm. I never got the feeling that the author was trying to push any of his characters as "truly believable". They are not intended that way, and if you need truly down to earth characters you aren't going to get half the humor in this series anyway.
Our hero Kyle Riggs like most of the characters in this story is sort of a cardboard cut out type action figure. That's not to say that he isn't dynamic. Just dynamic in a sort of womanizing alien killing one liner tossing macho man out to singlehandedly save the earth. Forced into a situation between power hungry government leaders who want nothing more than to control all of the alien tech for their own purposes and evil alien robots set to decimate all sentient biotic species in the universe. Kyle throws himself head first into the fray without looking back. With very few real friends and way to many enemies he has his hands full right to the end of the series.
So about this book in particular. Read it and you'll understand how it all started. Read the rest if you want to go on a very action packed and sometimes hilariously funny ride all the way through.
"New story, old concept, well told"
Great story, familiar formula for the genre. Nearly identical to other books therein but the telling of the story and characterization is good. Well worth the reading
