First off, I absolutely adore Ellen on her talk show. I think she is an amazing person. However, in my opinion this book was far from amazing. Honestly, I couldn't even finish it. I stopped listening around chapter 17 and am completely surprised I even let it go on that long without stopping it sooner. I was waiting for the book to pick up and become entertaining. Needless to say that never happened.
This book is completely chaotic. There's no structure. There's no story. Imagine someone smoking pot and then rambling for a few hours about the most random of random that random could ever be. Around chapter 17 is when I decided to read the bad reviews and was surprised that I truthfully couldn't agree more with them. I though maybe I was the asshole that wasn't listening or comprehending properly. But no, the majority of the population was in agreeance this book was bad. Unfortunately I would not recommend this book, unless of course it was too a stoner than I would definitely recommend it.
In true Ellen style this book manages to capture humour while at the same time instilling various positive ideas in the reader. Great book.
Ellen cannot be any funnier. otherwise I would have to find the fountain of youth or the secret to immortality, I would totally give it to you because I want you to live FOREVER!
THERE WAS NO FORM, REMINDED ME OF SOMEONE'S RANDOM THOUGHTS.
NOT WHAT I EXPECTED. I WANT A REFUND
love the script and the narrative. ..it was very entertaining and kept my attention through the readings
My expectations may have been too high for this, but I was disappointed. Maybe because I think Ellen had great observational stand-up and her show seems great from clips I've seen and the few times I've watched, but in those settings you see her AND hear her and I think that helps her delivery. I have not read or listened to her previous books. I just thought this Audible choice would be funny and it was kind of boring. She wasn't as animated as I thought and I just kept picturing her in a sound booth, annoyed that she had to narrate her own book. Haha. I'm still a fan of hers, but I think I would have liked this book better if I had read it in print.
