Vimes is one of my favourite Terry Pratchett characters and it was great have a new story focusing on him
Once again Terry Pratchett shows a different slant to a new race of characters - this time Goblins. Changing and challenging the expectations the reader brings with them, showing not all it what it seems
Vimes's interations with Young Sam
"What makes us human?"
As generally happens, the latest Terry Pratchett is often my favourite... so having just listened to this (after reading it twice) it is currently a favourite.
As with many of the Terry Pratchett's there's so much to think about or there's just a really good story that takes you along for the ride. It compares well to other more recent TPs.
I've always liked Commander Vimes, doesn't seem to matter who performs him, he's always value for money!
Yes. But with work and kids and various other commitments it is just for listening to in chunks while I knit or fold washing.
"It's pure Terry Pratchett gold"
Snuff is pure Terry Pratchett Gold. A must for any fan, and read by one of the better narrators Stephen Briggs. Go on, I dare you to buy this, you won't be disappointed.
"A lovely story, well told"
The Audible version is a nice version. Having read the book I now enjoy listening to the story being told in such a nice way, The narrator moves the story along and keeps a good pace, so that you can enjoy the richness of Pratchet's writing. It is a very good story with lots of humour and wit. The Audible book brings all of that to life.
I started to listen to the Audible version before I read the book, but stopped and read the book. I found that I could enjoy it more once I had read it. I love to listen before I fall asleep, and it is nice to know the story and just enjoy being read to.
"Good book, excellent audio"
I listened to this book during a number of long training sessions which is a testament to the clarity of the audio and quality of the reading. Stephen Briggs shows, once again, his suitability for narrating Terry Pratchett novels. The novel itself is not the finest Pratchett novel I have ever read but it is very entertaining and had some laugh out loud moments. If you are a Pratchett fan this is definitely worth listening too, if you are new to the Discworld novels there is plenty for you in this novel although you may struggle with some of the character development because it relies on some previous knowledge. Happy Listening
I love Terry Pratchett and the Night Watch are my favourite stories of his, however this book never really grabbed me didn’t feel like the Sam Vimes I know. Maybe because it wasn’t based in the city not sure just not my favourite book. Also not sold on Stephen Briggs as a narrator much prefer Nigel Planer, I personally have never envisaged Carrot as being Welsh... (No offence to the welsh!) My advice go for the early book read by Nigel Planer.
"Perfect Pratchett as always!"
Another excellent addition to the Discworld books. Insightful ironic insights into family life and the joys of children's books!
"Perfect road trip book"
I downloaded this book to listen to on a long journey through Europe it was great having it available on my iPhone connected to the car stereo to help the long journey pass. It was the first Terry Pratchett novel I had listened to as opposed to reading and it certainly added an extra dimension. The narrator was engaging and brought the characters to life. The nature of the book made it easy to pick up and put down - I definitely think I will do this again for a long journey.
Funny, action packed and great characters. Pratchett manages to develop the characters you love even more
Terry Pratchett never disappoints. His understanding of human nature and his rye amusement at human failings, foibles and weaknesses enables him to show us up at our best and our worst, at our most boring and most interesting; at our most pompous and humblest. Snuff is another brilliant story woven around the twists and turns of some people's greed and other people's desire to do good by each other. Short sighted snobs and narrow minded jobsworths get their comuppence in another beautifully crafted novel.
