I enjoyed the pure fun of compare this to the castle tv show
I think a women would do this better.
Audio book lover, wife, mother to three boys. I listen whenever I'm alone and can put headphones in.
Good storyline. Not boring. Good narrator. I watxh the show and can put the characters from the show into the book. Cant wait for another to come out!
I enjoy the Castle books. Good story with interesting plot twists.
No, I don't really care for Mr Heller's performance but I enjoy the Castle books so I "tolerate" him.
In the middle
At the end when Nikki is sitting with Rook in the hospital
I LOVE the series and really thought that the book might not be quite up to parr. I was not disappointed. I love to listen to a mystery and still be able to laugh. I thought the Johnny Heller did a stellar job reading also. Can't wait to listen to the others!!
I think a different narrator might have improved my rating though it may have been the material given that the sample didn't discourage me from getting this book.
I really had no interest in the sounds coming out of his mouth. It could have been an eighth grade English teacher reading aloud the previous night's homework.
The story is a fun romp much like the TV show, from which the book spawns, but with a larger dose of camp.
If I had paid more for this I might have been more upset. That I got it as part of a bundle means my review is coated with a cup of sugar.
It filled several hours on an otherwise dull drive which made it time well-spent. The story was entertaining but not enough to distract from driving. In short it drowned out the road noice but the story didn't want me to pull over and just listen to it.
We arrived at our destination before reaching the end of the story and the story did not grab us enough to sit in the parking lot to find out what happened next.
Mr. Heller was the best part of the story, his voice range and timing of delivery of dialog was superb. He gave life to the characters.
The first book (Heat Wave) in the series was much better than this one. This book was OK but lacked the charm of the first. The Rook (Castle) character was more of a background character in this one and it is his quips and cute irritations that set this series of books apart from other murder mysteries. Just as in the TV series it is the interplay of the Heat (Beckett) and Rook (Castle) characters that generate the "Heat" of the stories, the murder mystery is just the back drop to the characters. I think most readers (listeners) are more interested in the relationship between the two main characters than actually finding out who done it.
I love the TV show, the chemistry between all the actors is perfect. The book however missed out on that chemestry. The story took to long, I was getting impatent with the progress, there was no ergancy to the story at all until the end but by then I lost enterest in the story. Sorry but its not as good as the TV show.
