I would not. It was just so dark. There was no humor, no relief from the oppressive darkness. It was just...depressing. It's too bad, because I thought the premise very interesting and pretty original. But 12 and 1/2 hours of unrelenting bleakness is just too much for me.
I haven't. And now I probably won't, unless I see reviews that give me reason to hope of something less depressing.
Gabra was okay, but it got very confusing to me to have her doing the narration for the sections that were Liv and the sections that were Cam, with nothing to differentiate them.
Well, it does in the sense that the story isn't over at the end of the book. I won't read the follow-up, though, because I can't really take any more of the bleak world she has created.
It wasn't a terrible book, the characters were interesting, there were some good plot twists, and an interesting fantasy premise. I just couldn't get into it because it was kind of far-fetched, and I didn't really like most of the characters. Although I was curious to see how it ended up, I just didn't care enough to finish the book.
Gabra Zackman did a great job with the voices and pacing.
Say something about yourself!
Pleantly surprised with this different take on fantasy. Nice change from Witches and Vampires. I also enjoyed the alternating perspectives. Hearing the book from two main characters gives you so much more insight into the dynamics of the relationship. Narration is also great. (Gabra Zackman has never disappointed me!)
Wonderful Twist on talents
that it but the "mob" ideal in a new light a gave it a wonderfully wicked twist
Ms Vincent repeatedly changed the identity of the first person character. This was very confusing especially since the narrator didn't do anything to differentiate the voices. It could be improved if either the author does something to identify the speaker or the narrator speaks differently for each character.
I like this author and I love this narrator. The characters in this book were interesting and fully developed. (here comes the "however"..) However, I found the world setting of the story to be terribly depressing. Bleak. Violent and cruel. Maybe it's just me, weird mood or something, but wow.... don't read this is you are at all depressed or suicidal. Fortunately, this did not prevent me from listening to the very end and being glad that I did.
I couldn't tell if this book is to be a stand-alone or the start of a series, could go either way. If this author does write another book about this world I'll snap it up in an instant to see what happens next. Maybe the protagonists will have it a bit better next time.
This is the first of a new series, and is really worth listening to. It has a unique new twist to the paranormal realm. These people are born with skills, to help track down criminals, thru blood samples, names, and can shadow into a dark room. They are employed by mobsters. It's characters are thrown into this world, not wanting to be there, but their skills make them prisoners to the mob bosses. There is passion, romance, mystery, suspense, brutal action, along with a good story. Enjoyed the narration, which bounces from the woman, then back to the man's voice, telling the story. Which, probably made the story better to listen to, than to read. I'm going on to the next installment 'Shadow Bound"
I would recommend this book to some friends. I found some elements of the story to be predictable. While I liked the ending, I'm a little disappointed that the series will continue with other people in the protagonist roles, and am hopeful we will see what happens to our two heroes in the next book.
I much preferred this book to the Were-Cat series. I found the characters in that story to be of less than average intelligence and some of them seemed... forced. These characters were much more interesting.
I believe the narrator did a good job. She isn't one of my favorites, however. There's something about some of her female voices that I do not like.
I believe I will listen to the next book in the series just to see if it mentions what happens to the characters in this story. I will probably add this book to my paperback collection as well.
Blood Bound ranks up there with Vincent's Shifter series. However the narrator is too sing-song and is hard to follow with the character point of view changes. If you liked Vincent's Shifter series but aren't blown away with the Soul Screamer series then give this one a try.
I'm a fantasy book hoarder!! :-) I am a mother of two small beautful childeren and my books are my way of getting away for a little break!!!
NOT REALLY WHAT I EXPECTED BUT IT WAS AN OK BOOK. NEW TO THE AUTHER SO I REALLY CANT COMPAIR THIS WORK TO HER OTHER BOOKS. I GUESS IT JUST WASNT MY THING. BUT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH TRYING SOMETHING NEW!! GOOD BUT NOT MY CUP OF TEA!!! I THINK THE NARRATER COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER!!!
