Humankind, our self-interest, our tunnel vision, our quest for ultimate power, perfectly described in this fine work of literary art. The storyline is intriguing, the origin is real; truly, author Frank Peretti is a modern teller of parables.
Former teacher, technology professional development facilitator, gardner, crafter, and avid reader
All of Peretti's books speak about the condition of our worldly hearts in a time when we strongly need a Godly heart. This story keeps you hanging on the edge. It also leaves you filled with hope. No matter the monster that is lurking, when we stand for nothing, live a lukewarm life, we will pay the price.
Peretti has done again. I was very pleased with this novel as it came to an end. Just recently I had finished two other books by this author, the "This Present Darkness" series. While comparatively, The Oath has dramatically less Christianity interwoven in the pages, you will see that the story is indeed a religious novel. However, apart from a few subtle hints, this feels like the work of a secular author.
Many reviews complain about the ending being a disappointment simply due to the fact that it conveys religion. Make sure you do understand that Frank Peretti is a Christian author. This story is indeed a supernatural thriller and I would argue that that genre is the correct classification.
Great narration as well. A truly immersive experience.
