"Keep the calamine handy"
This was a good story and worth a listen. It is not only about bedbugs and the twist using these creatures was interesting. It has a rythm that makes you want to find out what happens next, so be prepared for a good long sit down. You will find it worthwhile
"OH MY GAWD!!!"
one of the best ever! I just couldn’t stop listening to the horror! GAWD!!! My flesh is still creeping… GASP!
At the beginning I thought the narrator would be boring with the time but no way. She really does the best job. She IS the main character who is slightly boring at the beginning but she gets more and more involved with the read… you will see, this audio piece is just abso fabso! One of the best I’ve ever listened to.
"Surprisingly, I like this one"
I bought this because it was on sale. I thought it was going to be kinda silly. It actually wasn't bad at all. It was a nice little thriller that kept my interest. A nice in between listen.
"Didn't care for it at all, and it wasn't the bugs"
So, we have a main character that is lazy, self centered and mooching off her husband while she ignored her kid by having a baby sitter daily. And people found this woman likable? By the end of the third chapter, I was wishing she'd get eaten alive and let her husband and child have a new decent person in their lives. Ben, if you can't write female protagonists that aren't needy and useless, perhaps you shouldn't try.
"A nice, stressful, thriller."
I was sure that she didn't really have bedbugs. I was sure she was just crazy. I had a bedbug scare a few years ago that turned out to be eczema.
Boy was I wrong about her situation. DAYUM!
The hammer
She had very distinctive changes in voice for each character, including accents.
Not until the end. At first I was too stressed to listen for very long; feeling Sue's anxiety and stress. Then I got to the point where I had to listen to find out if she'd be okay
A nice, judging book by it's cover, find.
"Scary, Creepy, Original"
It is so difficult to find a good, original, scary story. For those of us who have exhausted the Audible collection of Stephen King and Joe Hill and cannot tolerate Dean Koontz, this is a great book. It has actually been a while since I read this, but I remember it fondly. The people to whom I have recommended this book agree that it is a great, frightening book that is especially eerie to the urban dweller.
"Nice little nugget for Halloween!"
If you're sick of Stephen King's books which now seem long on the characterization and short on the chills (or it always ends up being aliens!) this is a great alternative. It's not overly long and weaves a good tale that nicely creepy for Halloween. I really enjoyed this!
"Not quite scary or original enough"
It's difficult to scare me with a book. In fact, there's just one that's kept me awake nights and made me wonder what might be hiding in the dark space under my bed. This one didn't even come close, though it turned into a decent thriller in the last couple of hours.
Inspired by recent troubles in New York City, Bedbugs is just too familiar. An ordinary family moves into a too-good-to-be-true apartment and one of them--in this case, the wife, Susan--begins to suspect something is not quite right about their new home. Strange facts about the place's history come to light. Worry turns to paranoia and then to apparent insanity. I can think of a half dozen similar stories. The ending offers some excitement, though; I admit I didn't guess correctly who/what was behind it all, and the family's fate seemed in doubt at several points.
Technically, the recording is perfect: no awkward cuts, missing words or sentences, etc. And the narrator does an excellent job. It just wasn't scary or original enough for me.
"Gross Decay of a Womans Mind..and badbugs...Ghosts"
If you truly can stand creepy crawly references.
It was part woman losing her mind, part Murder Mystery and mostly gross bugs..
This is a strong book, you are either going to hate it or love it.
The reading by Elisabeth Rodgers was spot on.
The female perspective is strong in this book, she pulled it off perfectly
To many to mention, a good cast that all relied on each other
Bugs...everywhere ! In your throat, your ears.. Aiiieeeee
"Strange book"
A fun listen. I totally identified with the main character as I'm always imaging vermin in my house. I did feel sorry for her as I know she was miserable. I was a psychiatric nurse and I know the torture a person suffers when no one else believes their fears. You'll have to listen to the book to find out if there really were bedbugs.
