Their story is nice but too predictable. He is though and quiet, she was strong and fierce, both see their lives change in 3 days. A little exagerated... But sweet anyway.
I purchased and listened to this story prior to reading any of the reviews. I loved the story. I think the characters, while well developed, were a little stereotypical. I can't say this really bothered me or detracted from my experience. The hero a former military man, with wilderness expertise and an alpha attitude. The heroine although smart and competent and tough is situationally dependent on the hero. Isolation and attractions ensues. Although one could argue it is predictable it was such an enjoyable and engaging listen that I can't fault the mechanics of the storyline. It was adventurous and sexy and even humorous at times. There are portions of the novel narrated by a bear and this seems to irritate other readers but they are short and add a unique element to the book. I would recommend this novel to any LH fan or a fan of romantic suspense.
The narration and descriptions of the thought processes of the characters was PAINFULLY slow. It seemed to go on and on. It would say the same basic thing over and over again just saying it in a different way. It felt like I was listening forever and NOTHING had really happened! I love Linda Howard usually, but I could hardly get through this. I liked the basic idea of the story and it could have been good -but it could have/should have been told in a fraction of the time. It was as if she was just deliberately trying to make it longer or something.
The story seemed to be deliberately dragged out for some reason.
I had no problem with the narrator.
The story had potential but the issues I already stated ruined it.
Yes, I would change and/or delete some of the scenes with the bear. I found them repulsive - much too graphic for my tastes. I believe the average reader knows what devastation can be done to the human body by a bear.
I enjoy reading this author's books for the personal relationships that seem to go from disdain to love. It gives hope to anyone in a terrible relationship that there might be some small way that they can actually fall in love with someone that they thought was the wrong person.
Disjointed, Disappointing, Distracting
I never have enough hours in a day to read as much as I want too! 24 is simply not enough! :)
Above the top!
Absolutely, the heroine went through serious obstacles any other romance heroine would never be allowed to face. She didn't have a knight in shining armor. She saved herself. Then the knight showed up to help finish her saving. They were real people.
The gruff voice of Dare and the sarcastic nature of Angie.
When Dare tells Angie he loves her.
I loved this book mostly because it gives you a good solid story that's believable, and real. Gives you a sweet romance with just a touch of good sex thrown in. No over the top, describe every sexual detail down to the guys freckle between his but cheeks! It was refreshing to read a book that leaned much more on its story instead of how raunchy the author could make the sex scenes.
Sassy dialogue, humor, and a great reader are important to me.
first chapter slow, but the rest was Linda howard better writing! Fast pace listen. Strong herorine. Nice job on story outline
Dare of course, just plain sexy as Linda Howard can make them.
Have not finished, but I am getting use to Ms Craden voice. Good, but will have to try one more of her readings to get a better idea if I want to buy her recordings. I have so many books, core old time romance that bad readers have ruined for me after waiting so long to get to listen to them. I.E. Sandra Brown Exclusive, both done by awful readers.
Angie's focus to get down the mountain. Boy, what a focus, you can admire. Women can
learn not to give up, but to re focus.
This will not disappoint. Bear scenes are a bit more than Howard usually writes, but I found them good.Maybe readers will take camping in bear country more seriously.
I can tell you, I want to a good adventure vacation after listening to this story.
PLOT: a killer schemes to hide his deed but a bear hunts him.
Angie Powell is about to loose her guide business. And Dare Callihan is to blame. is that any reason to turn him down for a date? LOL Angie is nearly broke so she books one last bear hunt. Nerdy Chad and his boss from hell a world class complainer makes Angie grit her teeth but she sets up camp only to discover the bear hunt is a cover for a murder. Now Angie is on the run and Dare finds her. The two struggle through a storm but find shelter and the real "heat" between Dare and Angie is lights UP. As they stuggle to walk down the mountain the BEAR is hot on everyones trail. I liked this one but it not Howards Best. Try Mr. Perfect or Open Season. I always love Howards details and character development. I give this one 4 stars all the way. and a pretty good new reader.
This is over the top. The night Angie witnessed the client kill his boss and the bear attacked kept me on the edge of my seat.
I really enjoyed the story and the characters. The romance takes time to develop and is believable.
Are people this angry and stubborn? I enjoyed the book, but could have used a bit less confrontation between the Dare and Angie. The weaving of the tale with the bear killings and her clients was pretty good.
